Berghain’s Most Famous Bouncer Has Photographed a New Fashion Campaign

Sven Marquardt is perhaps one of dance music’s most unusual icons, less for his elaborate face tattoos and infamously tough appearance, and more for the fact that he’s not a DJ/producer at all but rather a bouncer for Berlin techno temple Berghain , which of course carries a particular mystique for its famously elusive door policy.

As many Berghain regulars might already be aware though, Sven makes his own contributions on the cultural spectrum, and is a celebrated photographer who’s been capturing the gritty side of the German capital for the past 30 years.

He’s previously had his work showcased at the club’s 10-year anniversary art exhibition , though now Sven has partnered with legwear brand Item M6 for one of his rare adventures into the fashion world, for the launch of its Black range of high-tech socks for men.

“It is crucial to me that these kinds of collaborations don’t interfere with my artistic freedom and of course the quality and coolness of the product is a key consideration,” Sven told WWD , who shot the campaign in a local boxing ring boxing ring using analog photography.

“I was inspired by boxing matches, which represent masculinity, victory, pride, but also vulnerability and something rebellious. With this idea in mind, we selected our models, men who know the boxing ring and represent all of its emotions.”
