Young prodigies Porter Robinson and Madeon famously hooked up this year to co-headline a tour together, with another two months of US dates to go on their Shelter tour. Accompanied by a collaborative record of the same name, this was also vividly brought to life by an animated video (above), created by Japanese production house A-1 Pictures.
Written by Porter Robinson himself, Shelter tells the story of 17-year-old Rin, a girl who lives her life alone in a futuristic simulation. To pass the time, Rin uses her tablet to generate breathtaking landscapes plucked straight from her imagination. One day, everything changes, and she comes to learn the true nature and origins behind her life inside the simulation.
Robinson describes the video as “one of the most artistic [sic] fulfilling things” he’s ever done in his life. The US-based anime streaming platform Crunchyroll , whichhelped produce the animation, has put together a special behind-the-scenes video exploring the creative process.
