What is your favorite wedding day memory?
“One of my favorite moments was at the ceremony, I was standing up with my about-to-be husband, and our officiant asked our friends and family if they would love and support our marriage, and everyone in unison answered, “We will.” That memory will fill my heart for a lifetime. I loved seeing our day come together. A year and half of planning went (pretty much) as we envisioned it, and seeing all the people we love enjoy that vision was beyond words…
What did you DIY for your wedding?
Almost everything in our wedding was DIY, truly a labor of love, and I enjoyed every minute! I began with all the ribbon details and built on the beautiful, bright color palette. We wanted to pay homage to our current home, New York City, so I worked with a friend to design the invitations, I drew the escort cards from actual New York buildings and bound each program by hand. I screen-printed the napkins and the guest welcome bags and hand-painted the table runners and bunting flag banners. Our moms and aunts even arranged the table flowers. Something old, new, borrowed and blue?
..Yes, I did. My something old was my veil, my mom wore it at her wedding and somehow it matched my dress perfectly. My something new was my fabulous glitter Kate Spade shoes. Something borrowed was a lucky pence that my grandma and my aunt both carried attached to their bouquet, and I did as well. And finally, my “something turquoise” was my lovely turquoise vintage earrings, I found on Etsy!
What is your advice for current brides?
..Start projects early and if it seems overwhelming, don’t take on another DIY. Don’t be afraid to ask friends and family for help. I think you’ll find there are lots of people willing to pitch in to make your day perfect. You’re going to get lots of opinions, but have fun with the process and above all, remember that the day is about the bride and groom, if you have good music and drinks your guests will have a good time.” – Lauren, the amazing crafty bride
