Many Eco-Friendly Brides come to us and the first thing they say is they absolutely must have Locally Grown Flowers.  This can absolutely can be done!  However, we live in a part of the country that has a limited selection and choosing flowers that are in season are key!

If your wedding is in May and you want a wedding loaded with Pink Peonies you are in luck.  We work with a fabulous Eastern Shore grower and pick our Peony by hand. In some cases we have even gone out and harvested Peony for the bride’s bouquet on the morning of the wedding!

Most bride’s find it best to do a mix of local and outsourced product to achieve the look they are dreaming of.  As a supporter of local farms and businesses I am a big fan of buying local.  As I am sure we have all seen buying local can be a bit more expensive, however, it is worth the expense to see our region thrive and help to support our Maryland farms.

For summer brides wishing to “go local” Hydrangea is the way to go.  Hydrangea is in peak season and July and August.  This is not an inexpensive flower, but, it is large and full giving you a full aesthetic.

When thinking local for your floral arrangements, think beyond just flowers.  As a designer, I am always looking to entice and “intrigue” our clients we use local pods, bay grasses and even pumpkins.  This year we did a lot of work with Ghost pumpkins creating a fall inspired look.  If you are a DIY bride this is a cost effective way to add a custom look at your event while supporting our local growers.
