Unmanned Air Vehicle demo reel

Unmanned Air Vehicle demo reel

Here is a U.A.V. (unmanned air vehicle) 2014 Drone demo reel from Alterna Films filmed mostly on the scenic Northshore of Vancouver B.C.

“The intentions of this reel are to demonstrate the versatility and uniqueness of filming with this relatively new tool. The use of Quadcoptors and Octocoptors add a new dimension and allow us the ability to capture the once thought of “impossible shot.” Not long ago aerial inematography/photography was out of reach for most people, but with the evolution of technology the Drone has allowed us to dramatically increase the production value we can offer our clients at a very reasonable cost.

The Drone is a game-changer and our team is excited to be a part of this incredible evolution in filmmaking.”

ENO DoubleNest Assists in Helping Injured Dog

We received this email from Ali Cameron explaining her entry to our monthly Photo Contest .  Although her photo didn’t win, we think her story is pretty incredible.  Here it is, in her words:

“Hello. I have a story to tell you.  The picture is blurry and unflattering and in no way do I expect to it to win a photo contest, but what went on behind the scenes of this shot is worth telling you.  My bright orange ENO DoubleNest hammock went beyond its duties at a luxurious lakeside nest yesterday.  It supported a 90 pound black lab named Memphis who fell from a rock ledge and fractured his front legs.
My friend’s dog got too close to the ledge at the lake overlook point and fell approximately 30-50 feet to the shoreline below.  We all heard the thud of his landing and then complete silence.  My friend and I rushed down to the shore and found him laying there, with his left front lower leg pointing in the wrong direction.  We wrapped his leg and prayed for his comfort, peace and strength for us to carry him the 3 rocky, rooty miles down to our car.  THANK YOU, JESUS that I had my ENO hammock in my pack!  I had never brought it on a hike before, but it was so lucky that I had brought it this time.  So we scooped him up into the hammock and gauged the best route back up to the main trail.  We had to stop about every 30 feet and rest.  It was so difficult to carry his weight over an unstable terrain.  A few breaks later and we’re resting above a campsite.  A camper looks at us and says “do you guys need help?” and calls his buddy over.  These two guys, Joe and Courtney, brilliantly rigged the hammock onto a long tree branch so that Memphis was suspended in the hammock on the branch and we could carry him on our shoulders, rather than having to grip the hammock’s knots.  These dudes went above and beyond the call for help.  It took about 3 hours to get down the 3 miles to the car and then they had to return– in the dark– the 3 miles back UP to their campsite. We helped them hydrate and payed them in granola bars (the currency of trails, right?)
They carried the dog almost every step of the way, with my friend Erika and I helping to give them a few minutes break here and there.  I’m so grateful for people like this.  God answered our prayers for help within minutes and these guys were the answer.

Morals of the story: keep your dog on a leash, pray and expect results, and be grateful for the selflessness of strangers who ditch their plans of a peaceful weekend camping to carry 100 pounds off the mountain for you.  And always, always take an ENO hammock with you; it’s multipurpose and rugged as hell, bearing the weight and claws of a 90 pound lab without even a micro tear!

Update on Memphis: He spent the night at the emergency vet and has NO internal injuries (woohoo!) and he’s walking around with splints on both legs.  Amazing! He’ll stay another night for a Monday morning consultation to be sure surgery is not needed.”

We’re so happy that a hammock could be so useful in a time of need!  Wishing aspeedy recovery to Memphis!

This photo was taken minutes before Memphis’ fall. He’s the dog on the right. His “sister” lab Indie is on the left.

DIY Wedding | Chad + Megan

“What a beautiful day it was for Megan and Chad! The two wed at a private residence in beautiful Del Mar. The beautiful wooden invitations hand stamped by the bride, set the tone for the day. A romantic, beautifully-lit evening filled with DIY wooden elements {mostly travel related, as they traveled a lot together growing up and Chad currently works as a pilot!}. We began the day with Megan getting ready on location in the upstairs master bedroom. After the bride had donned her beautiful dress and veil, finishing touches were made by her bridesmaids. Her Father and her then shared an emotional first look. Next, Megan and Chad shared their first look at the front entrance of the house. After some time spent together in the beautiful afternoon sun, we met up with the bridal party and family for some more portraits. Their short and sweet ceremony was followed by some fun moments, laughter, exchange of rings and prayer, these two were married! Their first kiss was followed by much celebration and cheers of joy from their closest friends and family, who were gathered to witness their big day. All the DIY elements and personalized details were amazing! Once all the guests were seated and the sun had almost set, the bridal party made their grand entrance into the reception, and Megan and Chad went right into their first dance, followed by dinner and toasts. Finally, after all the reception events were completed, we stole the newlyweds away from the party for a romantic end of the night shot! It was such a marvelous day for such a wonderful couple and we wish them many years of joy and happiness!” – Peterson Design + Photography

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

My favorite memory was walking down the aisle with my dad. It was a really fun moment for me to experience that with him. We wanted a nice wedding, but didn’t want to break the bank. Our main concern was spending so much money on a day that would be over so quickly. We wanted a full weekend experience for our wedding, so we rented a large estate where all of our bridal party and their guests stayed for the entire weekend. It was great to get to spend so much time with them. We understand that being in a wedding often means you have to spend quite a bit of money, so we thought we could at least take care of the accommodations. The home was amazing and allowed us to have out of town friends and family over all weekend to enjoy!

What did you DIY for your wedding?

We DIY’d pretty much everything! I printed and cut all of the stationary {programs, menus and place cards}, arranged and created the bouquets, we also purchased all of our own linens and wine glasses as it was cheaper than renting, plus we can sell them! Lastly, all of the signs and decor were DIY’d!

Something old, new, borrowed and blue?

We had a something old and something borrowed. For our something old and borrowed, we used Chad’s parents’ cake topper and we had my parents’ cake topper on display at our guest globe table.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

I knew I was tackling a lot doing everything myself, so I got started really early on. I worked diligently throughout the entire year prepping and planning so that I wouldn’t be too stressed out. The only thing was tough was the flowers. I was really worried the night before our wedding that all of our hydrangeas were going to wilt and die. We purchased them in bulk and I was responsible for keeping them alive. I read horror stories online about how sensitive they are and when the first couple started to wilt, I had a slight breakdown. I spritzed them all with water and we only lost a few. All of the others, including those in our bouquet, made it through the full wedding day. -Megan, the bride

A Relaxed DIY Home Wedding in France

A Relaxed DIY Home Wedding in France

Hey lovelies, I hope you had a fabulous weekend! I have a really sweet relaxed DIY home wedding in France for you today captured by our lovely FWS vendor聽Julia Jane Photography ,聽but first I have to share my excitement with you. Not only is February my birthday month (eeeek) but today I officially join the wonderful French Wedding Style family as the new Editorial Assistant. I’m beyond excited and can’t wait to bring you even more wedding inspiration!

Preparing today’s feature really took me back to planning my own garden party wedding back in 2013 . I loved every second of gazing聽through Pinterest for pretty ideas and I found so many!! I’d certainly offer one piece of advice with Pinterest: Use it to your hearts content but don’t bite off more than you can chew.

I love looking through gorgeous handmade weddings, they really give an insight聽into the bride and grooms personalities. Today’s wedding includes pretty personalised confetti cones, unique dried flower bouquets and even a high street wedding dress perfectly complimented with a cathedral length lace trimmed veil 聽which looks stunning on our gorgeous bride Caroline who will be walking us through her special day…

“From the outset we knew planning a wedding in France from London would be challenging, but we were prepared to overcome all obstacles to make our dream a reality. Our reception was at my parent’s home, which used to belong to my grandparents, so holds lots of very special memories for us.”

“We wanted to do and make as much as possible ourselves, and asked in favours from friends and family, who were more than happy to be involved! We had around 95 guests in total from all over the world and the celebrations went on for several days before and after the big day.”

“I had initially bought a silk and lace vintage gown but after some consideration decided that it wasn’t quite right for me. By chance, I stumbled across my dress: an off-the-peg dress from Coast and I absolutely loved its simplicity and classic style.”

“I was very lucky that a family member is a make-up artist and I was thankful to have someone I trust implicitly doing my hair and make-up on the wedding morning.”

“I always wanted a long veil and the one I chose was from Joyce Jackson with a French lace trim.

“Jonathan wears a suit to work every day so wanted to feel more casual with a tweed jacket and knitted tie with chinos and brogues. “

“We didn’t want to be formulaic about what any of our wedding party wore, so the groomsmen wore their own suits and the bridesmaids chose their own dresses.聽 On the day, I was so amazed and so happy how fantastic they all looked together 鈥?a mix of vintage and new cream dresses. All the girls wore gold shoes and gold and pearl necklaces and dried flower bouquets from Etsy which tied them together.”

“Music was a key part of our day 鈥?we decided to mix classical, traditional French caf茅 music and a cover band for evening dancing.聽 We had two singers in the church who made the ceremony magical 鈥?I walked up the aisle with my Dad to Panis Angelicus and down again with my husband to Let the Bright Seraphim by Handel from Samson. My mum is a classical musician so had lots of input and suggestions with the ceremony music, which was wonderful.”

“We decided early on that we wanted to spend as much time with our guests as possible during the day, so only had a short photo shoot after the ceremony when we went to a vineyard at the back of the house for a few photographs together.聽 Julia Jane Photography did an absolute fantastic job throughout the day. She just ‘got us’ and we can’t recommend her highly enough.”

“After the ceremony our priest and his wife had laid on a ‘Vin d’honneur’ with champagne and canapes which was such a brilliant atmosphere seeing our guests getting into the party mood immediately after the ceremony.”

“Our favours were bottles of homemade sloe gin which we had made together the previous summer. Our wedding cake was made by my grandmother.”

“Food and wine was important to us, and we wanted everything to be sourced locally, so our wine was from our local vineyard ( Domaine du Petit Clocher ) that have provided all the wines for past family occasions and even personalised the labels with our names.聽 We hired in local caters and ate French salads, pork mchoui (spit roast), local cheeses and French tarts for desert.”

“Immediately after we cut the cake (and a minor disaster of the cake topper falling off!) we danced our first dance as a married couple; to The Isley Brothers ‘This Old Heart of Mine.’ 聽One of our first dates was to see the French film ‘Little White Lies’ and that song has since then been ours.”

“For the reception we had an accordionist / singer Beatrice Perrin who sang lots of Edith Piaf and traditional French caf茅 music 鈥?which was magical as the clouds parted and the sunshine came out for the rest of the day!”

A Relaxed DIY Home Wedding in France

“Our evening band 鈥? Rip It Encore 鈥?were absolutely amazing. They had the whole party on the dance floor immediately and played an amazing selection of covers.”

A Relaxed DIY Home Wedding in France

“We had a late night mass pizza delivery which was the best last-minute idea we had!聽 There wasn’t a scrap left after a very long day of drinking, eating and dancing!!”

A Relaxed DIY Home Wedding in France

I hope you enjoyed our relaxed DIY wedding today! It seems when planning a DIY wedding the little details always find a way of coming together perfectly in the end. So remember with all your wedding DIY projects just breathe, enjoy the journey and above all聽“Don’t sweat the small stuff and in the end its all small stuff”!

Have a wonderful week.

With love,
Christina x
