Engagement | Gabor + Michelle

“I loved photographing these two during their desert engagement session. We caught the perfect sweet light just before sunset as the clouds that had been hanging around all afternoon cleared. Michelle and Gabor have fantastic style – I can’t wait to see the details they craft into their wedding this Labor Day. You get a taste of their bohemian-glam style from the invitations Michelle designed. I love the cow “branding” they incorporated on the invites and wedding, which is a nod to Gabor’s family name. Be sure to check out Michelle’s beautiful antique ruby engagement ring, which is a family heirloom passed down through Gabor’s family.” – Lucky Malone Wedding Photography

How did you find your photographer?

McCall and I went to the same small high school in Lyons, CO and played together on many sports teams. She was the tough upperclassman who taught me sometimes throwing an elbow is necessary. To this day, she is close friends with my older sister. I’m obsessed with McCall’s beautiful food photography and was so happy to hear she did weddings. Her aesthetic is so spot on and exactly what we were looking for.

What are you DIY-ing for your wedding?

I come from a long line of DIY-ers in both my mom and dad so we always knew my wedding would be DIY to the max. I was able to design our save the dates, invitation suite, programs, website and signage with the help of lots of YouTube tutorials and basic Adobe Illustrator knowledge. We’re working with a good friend of ours (who will be officiating) to design and write our own ceremony. We’ve been collecting jars and bottles for months to spray paint gold for our flowers, which we will attempt to DIY the day before the wedding. Our ceremony backdrop, reception garland, and table runners are all DIY. And my favorite project so far is the DIY marquee light we made for the dance floor. We have cows sprinkled throughout the wedding to pay homage to my fiances Hungarian roots (his last name/my new name means cow in Hungarian). We’re spray painting plastic cows for place settings and my mom is even crocheting all the kids a cow stuffed animal! In addition to my mom’s help, my dad is building us a cornhole set and our moms, aunts, sisters, and friends are all contributing to our homemade cookie and pie buffet.

What are you looking forward to the most?

We look forward to bringing Gabor’s Hungarian family and my Colorado family together for the first time in our five year relationship! Not only that, but we’ll have people traveling from five countries and eleven states to be at the wedding. It’s going to be pretty amazing to be surrounded by all that love as we become husband and wife. That keeps us going through all the spray paint mishaps and hot glue gun burns. Oh, and becoming Gabor’s wife. I’m pretty pumped for that, too. – Michelle, the bride-to-be
