DIY Wedding | Daniel + Tessa

“Whoa. I really don’t know where to begin with this one. Daniel & Tessa have been great friends of ours for years, and when they first asked us to shoot their wedding, we were thrilled. These two have impeccable taste and we knew it would be gorgeous, but I don’t think we fully understood how gorgeous until we arrived on their wedding day. Tessa is breathtaking and Daniel looked like a million bucks. They choose an old schoolhouse in Fellsmere, Florida for their ceremony, and the auditorium suited their Americana taste perfectly. Throw in a little Springsteen and Elvis to top it off, and you’ve got one of the most fun weddings we’ve ever been to. We’re so excited for these two to share their lives together and couldn’t be more thrilled for them. Here’s a huge thanks for Daniel & Tessa for allowing us to be there for one of the best days of their lives.” – Black & Hue Photography

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

I loved the fact that we did some fairly untraditional things, such as having a “whiskey ceremony”, walking down the aisle to Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Bruce Springsteen and having such a mixed, diverse group of people there that loved every minute of it and walked away all being family. I loved that everyone accepted the way Daniel and I wanted to celebrate our love and it just brings us even closer together.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

We tried to DIY as much as we could! From arranging our own flower bouquets, making our own cakes with family recipes, table runners to the wedding favor jams. My favorite though was the groomsmen boutonnieres. I made them using Osceola turkey feathers, which is a wild turkey only to be found in Florida, to of course go with our Florida theme. With the girls having wildflowers and the men having the feathers really gave us the rustic twist to our classic attire.

Something old, new, borrowed and blue?

Something old was a handkerchief that was wrapped around my bouquet brought back from Cuba that was Daniel’s grandmother’s. Something new was my dress, easy. Something borrowed was my Mother’s diamond earrings and something blue was incorporated into my garter.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

To just be yourself and let that shine through your wedding day. It’s so easy to get wrapped up and go over the top when planning with Pinterest ideas and all the other gorgeous weddings you see daily online but Daniel and I just really wanted it to be US. And to not look back and think “Woa, what were we thinking doing that?!”….Now we look at it and see our style and our ideas and wouldn’t change a thing! – Tessa, the bride
