Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love Of Shoes

Love Of Shoes!

Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love Of Shoes

Hi, my name’s Vicky and I’m a shoeaholic! Figured I couldn’t not write a post about my favourite thing, although slightly worried I’m going to sound like some sort of spoilt brat so apologies in advance, I like to think I’m not! I love fashion, I’m very rarely without a Vogue magazine hidden somewhere in my crew bag and have a fair few designer pieces sprinkled throughout my wardrobe but my number one love is shoes (probably coz they’ll always fit!). Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love Of Shoes I’m in the very fortunate position that I have a job that allows me to indulge every now and then so over the years my collection has grown and, I’m not gonna lie, is unlikely to stop growing… I have a problem! I was going to try and be good when it came to the wedding shoes and wear a designer pair I already had, I’d even told our photographer which pair I was wearing in the hope that it would calm me down (ha!). Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love Of Shoes But I changed my mind when I found a pair of emerald green Louboutins and Rob told me they looked like Welsh shoes (green shoe, red sole), figured that was pretty much like him telling me that I needed to get them (I told you, it’s a problem!!!). I even had the perfect pair of flats I could bring out for the evening as being in 10cm heels all day would kill me, Louboutins are made to sit in in my opinion, even the flat ones pinch. Trouble is as shoes is my thing I’d decided on this before I’d done the dress. As I’ve mentioned before I’m a giant, and adding giant heels to a giant person meant that even a standard length dress would flap around my ankles which, even though you’d see the shoes well, probably not a great wedding look! So no Welsh shoes :-( and under a ban not to buy my shoes until the dress arrived over 6 months later!!!! Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love Of Shoes
This (prepare for overly dramatic screeching now) was like telling me not to breathe!! Ok, too far, but 6 months!!! We figured I’d want possibly a 6/7cm heel so I thought I should probably research, daily. It’s an odd heel height to find but I had a few options to look into when the dress arrived and I could shop. Until I stumbled across another favourite thing, discounts! So I went off to see the lovely Ruth Shaw who is the designer of Harriet Wilde shoes and ended up in turmoil as it turns out you can work with her and design your own bespoke shoes. Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love Of Shoes So I was caught, take the plunge and buy a pair (still pre dress) with a significant discount or go all out and spend a small fortune to have the privilege to become a shoe designer which is slightly dream material. In the end my head won out over my heart (well my heart won slightly as I also bought a pair of boots that were in the sale and just looked so cute with jeans) and have shelved my shoe designer dreams. I’ve still gone for coloured shoes to be slightly different and will tell you now that Harriet Wilde shoes are the most comfortable heels I’ve ever worn. I’m still taking the Welsh shoes with me though, figured I might not be able to wear them all day but that won’t stop me getting some sort of arty shot on the stairs! Plus, I gotta say that for all my stupidly expensive shoe love that my most favourite, most comfortable and most worn pair of shoes have to still be my wellies. Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love Of Shoes

I think ever single one of us are jealous of your shoe collection. Pity I’m a size 3 and can’t borrow any. ~ Kate

Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love/Hate Of Photos

I have never been a big fan of having my photo taken and this was a massive worry for me. I can see that it is a worry for other ladies as well. Our Graceful Bride tells us about her love/hate of photos. If you have missed any of here other post you can find them here . Take it away Vicky!

Our Graceful Bride

Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love/Hate Of Photos

My love/hate of photos

This blog post has had a fair few guises so far! It started out when I wrote one on what felt like the longest Sardinia flight ever whilst French air traffic control were on strike (cheers France!) before I promptly forgot to save it and lost the whole thing. Then I threatened the Cwtch Girls with a post on the annoyance of computers instead but couldn’t quite figure out how to tie that in to wedding chat so here I am again, attempt number whatever!! It’s kind of apt though as I’d started talking about bad times in the original version. 2015 was not a great year for us, shortly after we got engaged we had to have Taylor, our rough collie, put to sleep which was followed a month later by sadly losing Robs dad.
Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love/Hate Of Photos Needless to say we spent a while not being in the greatest of head spaces whilst trying to begin to plan a wedding. For me this resulted in an absolute fixation on trying to find a photographer. I’m a nightmare with photos, I love taking them (I have some great ones from flying) but there’s very few of myself where I think I look OK.
Bride To Be Diaries: Graceful Bride’s Love/Hate Of Photos I am that annoying person who has the camera out of your hand looking, complaining, deleting, making you take the picture again before you have a chance to hide it. So to say I was slightly worried about paying a significant amount of money for something I dislike was obvious, at one point we even considered not having a photographer at all. That all changed though when in my slightly unhinged state I became obsessed with trying to find the perfect photographer. To be honest it’s a complete haze now but I spent day after day glued to the internet researching every single wedding photographer I could find. I know I drove Rob mad and I can only apologise for it now but I just couldn’t let it go! I don’t even remember how we found David Wickham , our photographer, all I know is one minute I was going mad trying to find the perfect photographer and the next I was going mad obsessing over his work.

Again more bugging Rob occurred as I proceeded to show him every single photo on the website over and over again whilst we discussed our options, David being above our original budget (an issue when you live with an accountant!) Rob didn’t understand my complete need to get the photography sorted all of a sudden, although to be fair neither did I, but agreed in the end (possibly to shut me up) and so I tried to send the least begging email I could muster. We even managed to avoid any arguments over the cost when my parents decided that the photography would be their financial contribution to the wedding. I thought I’d calm down after that but then couldn’t get over the fact that David photographs all these beautiful weddings in beautiful locations, I convinced myself that we wouldn’t add up to them and we’d let him down. As I said the timing of all this wasn’t ideal and looking back now I can see it wasn’t the best idea to keep planning in those couple of months but I’m also so glad that we found David and got in early enough to book him. I’m still completely in love with all his photos and have faith that he can make me look good in at least one (lol) he’s even promised I can look at some on the day to shut me up, just not all of them! I still have a panic every now and then, generally when another stunning wedding pops up on his Instagram, but I think I’m getting better, plus he seems genuinely excited about coming to Wales, he’s even staying for a few days to go photograph some landscapes! In the mean time I’m forcing us into taking the odd selfie when we’re out places so that my phone isn’t full of pictures from flying and of the dog! I doubt they’ll make it to my Instagram (seriously flying and dog heavy on there) but it’s a start, even if Rob looks a bit bemused in most of them!

Bride To Be Diaries: Our Graceful Bride Plans Her Honeymoon

I always thought that the honeymoon was just a holiday but after getting married I realised how important it was. With all the planning, the emotions and the big day itself I was shattered. You need a holiday! Today Our Graceful Bride plans her honeymoon. Take it away Vicky.

Our Graceful Bride Bride To Be Diaries: Our Graceful Bride Plans Her Honeymoon

The Honeymoon,

Now I love Rob and we’ve had some great holidays both in the UK and abroad, but when it comes to some aspects of travel we are massively at different ends of the spectrum! I love to travel, I’ve lived in the UK, France and New Zealand and was fortunate enough to travel all over the world with my parents. It’s a really hard feeling to describe to people but if I go too long without going somewhere I get really unhappy. My job helps a bit with this as the view we get is pretty much second to none but it’s still not the same as I only ever get half an hour sat on a bit of Tarmac that looks the same as every other bit of Tarmac! So if there’s one area that we are not compatible it’s this!! Rob, bless him, just doesn’t get it. He likes being home, he’s not a huge fan of flying (haha) and attempting to get him to take time off work is nigh on impossible. I literally feel the need to always be planning a holiday, he doesn’t understand why we need to go anywhere when the honeymoon is booked for October and we went away last year! Bride To Be Diaries: Our Graceful Bride Plans Her Honeymoon
When it does come to our holidays Rob generally wants to have the option to do stuff other than lounge on a beach so as soon as I started thinking honeymoon I went for it, like I needed reigning in! I was island hopping in Tahiti, heading somewhere to the east of Bali I’d never heard of, jungle trekking through Borneo to see orangutans, staying on a private island in the Seychelles and basically wanting to go to every island in the South Pacific! So when Rob said he wanted to go somewhere we could relax and do nothing and didn’t really want to take 4 flights to get there (spoil sport) I was a bit thrown. Trouble with October/November time is you really need to go Southern Hemisphere or East and if you mention anywhere slightly odd (read possibility you might die from some tropical disease) then he’s not a fan. So we’ve ended up not being very adventurous at all and have gone for the very beautiful but slightly cliche Maldives. Bride To Be Diaries: Our Graceful Bride Plans Her Honeymoon
So then came the hard part for me, bartering. I’m useless at it, I panic and don’t like doing it, I’d much rather Rob did it but if it’s me then I can use the “I work in the industry” line, cheesy as it is. I must say though I was quite proud of myself and I went for it, got a variety of quotes from different companies and then pushed them down until we got pretty much to our original budget. The relief when it was over though! Every time the phone pinged with an email I was ready to collapse just in case if all backfired on me! But I am proof that it does work so give it a go, I think we saved around £1000 from doing it. Bride To Be Diaries: Our Graceful Bride Plans Her Honeymoon
So for now I’ll continue to bug him to go away for more holidays (if I mention Costa Rica enough he’s surely gotta give in right?!?) and have found the perfect compromise, he stays home looking after the dog, I go abroad with my parents (yes I’m a 30 year old woman who enjoys holidaying with my mum and dad, we’ve already been away twice so far this year)!  Although I’ve got my way with the honeymoon a little bit coz technically we’re taking 3 flights to get to the hotel, although one of them is a seaplane so it’s not so bad :-D Bride To Be Diaries: Our Graceful Bride Plans Her Honeymoon
Who else is a little envious of Vicky’s honeymoon? It sounds like its going to be beautiful, relaxing and a bit of a bargain. Lucky Lady! ~ Kate

The Graceful Bride- Finds her beauty inspiration

We all have that moment as Brides to be that inspires how we want to ‘look’ on the day.

Whether it is an old photo of your beautiful mum on her day, a picture in a magazine, or a collection of images found on pinterest or in the case of our Graceful Bride Vicky an Instagram picture.  Here she explains how one image helped her find her beauty inspiration and put her back track looking after her body and skin ahead of her big day…

I’ve never been a small girl. I’m pushing 6ft tall (and have been for as long as I can remember) and I inherited my Dads shoulders and he used to be a prop! Therefore I’ve accepted that a size 8 I ain’t and never will be!

Not too long into the start of our relationship I moved out to Paris for work so spent 15 months going back and forth between the UK and France. When I was in Paris I spent all my time living off meals in restaurants, junk food, bread and cheese (who wouldn’t!) and crew food, which isn’t great! By the time I’d get back home for my days off I’d be exhausted and again just live off junk and any exercise regime went out the window.

When I eventually moved back I was the biggest I’d ever been and really needed to sort it out. I spent a few years just watching what I was eating and exercising more and eventually got to a weight I’d not been at since I was a teenager but then I stalled and couldn’t lose any more. Trouble is I was still eating a load of sugar (I would live off chocolate if I could) and not really putting good stuff in my body.

A few months after we got engaged an Australian brand called Grace Loves Lace came to London on a special one off with their wedding dresses (well worth a look if you’ve not heard of them but want a slinky/flowing lace boho style dress). I was looking through their Instagram one night and came across one photo and Rob was like, hide it, I don’t want to see you in any dresses. It wasn’t me in the photo though so I clicked on the models Instagram page (good bit of stalking lol), didn’t know how he could think I looked like this stunning girl (granted the picture was from behind) until I got to one of the official modelling ones and discovered we were virtually the same measurements everywhere.

She though was toned and looked amazing in a bikini, me, not so much. So she’s become my body inspiration for the wedding, (#belikeBree!) I kinda put myself in a bad position after Christmas as well, we were both ill so just ate whatever was around, mainly out of comfort, and I put on a fair bit of weight. Standard January diet was on the cards until I heard of Joe Wicks and his Lean in 15 book so that is what I’m trying. Although I’m finding it hard to stick strictly to it with my shifts so am half doing it at the moment, the weightloss is going though so I must be doing something right.

The Graceful Bride- Finds her beauty inspiration

As I’ve mentioned before I love a bit of Pinterest but one day was really shocked when I came across a wedding timeline for beauty that involved things like when to get your teeth whitened and top up your Botox!! One good thing about living in Paris was having ample time to try nearly every skincare brand you can find in a French pharmacy.

I’ve always been a bit obsessive about my skin, anyone who’s been on a long flight will know how drying it can be and I didn’t want to end up looking twice my age so French pharmacies are an absolute goldmine! The U.K. is beginning to cotton on to some of these brands and you can get them now online and from certain shops/spas. Well worth a look if you want to treat yourself to some new skincare, it may seem pricey but a little goes a long way.

The Graceful Bride- Finds her beauty inspiration

This picture is the ones you’ll always find on my dressing table, I can’t live without them! Plus, and this might sound a bit extravagant, but I’d also recommend seeing a good beauty therapist for a facial if you want any advice on your skin. I’m lucky where we live and we have a fantastic day spa where I spend way too much time and money but their advice has just been invaluable! But if you can’t pamper yourself and have a little bit of de-stressing me time in the run up to your wedding then when can you!!

The Graceful Bride: The Wedding Weekend

We all know what it’s like when you have guests travelling to your wedding. You want to make a big celebration of it. Vicky
our Graceful Bride tells us how her big day has turned into the weekend wedding. The Graceful Bride: The Wedding Weekend
So I grew up in South Wales and am Welsh through and through, even though I’ve not lived there full time since I was 18. To me there was no question that when I got married I was getting married at home. Luckily my other half was completely on the same page and also didn’t want to get married anywhere else. Trouble being that we, and the majority of our guests, live a couple of hundred miles away! I suppose in my head I’d always envisioned a full on weekend wedding with everyone all in one place but the logistics of that looked like a nightmare!! Just after we got engaged we went to a friends wedding and they had done a full weekend affair, rented a stunning mansion house and from Friday to Sunday had the run of the place. It was a truly fantastic wedding but looking at the management of it all, separate caterers, bar, getting friends and family heavily involved etc I just thought I cannot cope with doing this myself from 200 miles away (generally I like a nice, easy, stress free life!). At the same time I was very aware that most people would be over a 3 hour drive away from where we’d get married so I couldn’t just expect people to come for the day. The Graceful Bride: The Wedding Weekend
I thought we’d got it completely right whilst looking online for venues. A gorgeous hotel with the right number of guest rooms that you could have exclusively for the weekend, all the food and drink being done by them in house. It wasn’t a wedding venue as such as they did very few of these weekend weddings but that made it feel a bit more special. Once I found out that Rob had also stayed there as a kid I was certain it was fate and ‘the one’. Trouble is when I went to discuss details I had a real personality clash with the owner and came out vowing to never give him any of my money!! The problem that came from this was everywhere else was either a large hotel that would have other guests (which I really didn’t want) or was too small for everyone to stay so I figured I was gonna have to kiss goodbye to my weekend wedding. The Graceful Bride: The Wedding Weekend
In the end we went with the smaller venue, the lovely Peterstone Court and figured we’d just have some of our family stay with us on the Saturday night. Until we decided I’d probably need to be there doing stuff on the Friday so we thought that myself, Mum and Dad and my bridal party could stay there Friday night as well. Plus there was a cottage so some of my friends could come down Friday too. But Rob wanted to play golf down at Celtic Manor on the Friday so figured he’d stay there with his close family that night. The Graceful Bride: The Wedding Weekend Although we wanted to do a big meal in our favourite restaurant in Newport on the Thursday night so maybe all of us should stay in the Celtic Manor that night as well. And if we were there Thursday then we could do a family only golf and spa day before the friends started to arrive. So at the moment I’ve lost my weekend wedding and seem to have ended up with a 4 day extravaganza staying in different places with people popping in and out for various bits. Logistical nightmare here I come!
The Graceful Bride: The Wedding Weekend I think you would agree that it does sometimes get out of hand but if your are anything like me you wouldn’t have it any other way. I hope it doesn’t get too much for you Vicky. ~ Kate

Introducing Our Graceful Bride Vicky

Hurray!!!!

Another new bride to be…..(drumroll)…..Introducing Our Graceful Bride Vicky. This lovely lady is proudly Welsh so I hope you can forgive her for living in Essex. Haha….I can’t wait to hear all about her wedding as she has excellent taste in shoes and loves a bit of luxury. This bride might be working in a mans world but she is a lady through and through! Take it away Vicky!
Introducing Our Graceful Bride Vicky

So hello lovely readers of Cwtch the Bride, my name is Vicky and I was crazy enough to enter the bride to be competition to blog about my wedding! I’ve been asked to write a short biography about myself so you can all get to know me, without making it sound like a CV. Unfortunately I decided on a science degree over an English one so you’ll have to bear with me, I did try and look at ‘professional’ bloggers for inspiration but only got as far as Zoella before I got distracted with major hair envy! Anyway, I digress!!

Introducing Our Graceful Bride Vicky

So I’ve just turned 30 and live in Essex but am originally from Pontypool (I like to pretend that my fiancé and I are a bit like Gavin and Stacey but the similarities end there!) We live in the beautiful North Essex countryside (it’s nothing like TOWIE, which I bet at least one of you were thinking about) with our spoilt labradoodle Bailey.

Introducing Our Graceful Bride Vicky

I work as a pilot out of Stansted for the ‘webs favourite airline’ so I spend half my life up at 38,000ft, it’s an amazing job but not as glamorous as people think! I’ve got to admit other than that I’m probably quite boring (30 going on 80 according to Rob, just coz I enjoy a game of scrabble!) and spend my life walking the dog, reading, trying to add to my shoe collection etc etc.

Introducing Our Graceful Bride Vicky

Although we live in Essex there was absolutely no other place we were going to get married other than Wales. I am proudly Welsh and Rob has always loved it so much he calls it his spiritual home. We’re having a small intimate wedding of around 60 close friends and family in what I’ve decided to call our ‘relaxed, elegant country’ style. It may be a Georgian manor but I want to feel like I could curl up with my feet on the sofa, like the flowers have been brought in from the garden that morning and like we’ve just used whatever old antiques we could find to set the tables, whether it be books or bone china or old glass vases. The focus is good food, good music and good times with the people we love the most.

Introducing Our Graceful Bride Vicky I promise though that I will try and make my blog posts really interesting so you don’t give up on me halfway through, although to be fair they may just be full of me rambling on about my new found obsession with Pinterest! See you all next month for my first crack at it.

I think you can admit that you are like me and what to know about Vicky and her big day….and her shoe collection!! If you missed our last introduction please come and meet our Spring Bride Ali here !
