BRIDES: 10 Style Tips for the Fashion-Forward Bride, with Gabriella Risatti of Gabriella New York

Consider some of the newer Israeli designers in your dress search!
After the success of Inbal Dror, there has been an influx of amazingly talented wedding dress designers coming from Isarel, and they’re creating epically fashionable gowns! Gabriella has two new favorites she recommends, below.

Lihi Hod: ”Lihi Hod is a young, Israeli designer offering beautiful gowns and separates,” Risatti says. “ Each piece is custom made to the bride’s exact measurements, creating an incredible fit. The style is sexy, but still sophisticated and refined. The fit is perfection! The gowns are not widely distributed, adding to the exclusive and special nature of this design house.”

Flora: ”While Flora is also a young Israeli designer, her look is quite different from what we’ve already seen, Risatti explains. “The fabrications are very special and unique to this designer. The gowns are feminine, soft and a bit whimsical with just a hint of sexiness. They are often a soft A-line, which is a wonderful shape that lends itself to many different body types. These gowns also feel very diverse in that one could visualize them in many different settings.”

But don’t rule out hot, young American talents like Kelly Faetanini (Above), either!
“Our brides absolutely love the Kelly Faetanini gowns. Kelly is young and fashionable and it shows in her designs,” she says. “One of the things I really love about the Kelly Faetanini collection is the range it represents…”

Angelo Lambrou
Known for the simple, sophisticated, and flattering elegance of his namesake bridal gowns, Angelo Lambrou also offers couture eveningwear that many a Manhattan mother of the bride adores. His clothes are inspired by his wordly roots and the energy of New York City — the Southern Africa-born designer initially came to the states after designing the dresses for the entire opening of Miss Universe 2000. Angelo Lambrou clients can expect designs alive with texture, shape and form — including a signature line of bias cuts, draped wrap details and handcrafted, intricate pleating that flatters in just the right places. The atelier works by appointment only so the gown selection process can become a creative collaboration leading to a one-of-a-kind gown as individual as each client. Dresses begin at $3,500. Clifford Michael
This Upper East Side staple has long been a fixture in social dresses. They recently moved to a new location on Madison between 53rd and 54th, where they treat fashionable mothers of the bride and groom to their extensive designer assortment, expansive collection of high quality fabrics, and an in-house tailor who has the capability to make muslins for a perfectly fitted custom frock. Clifford Michael suggests coming in four to six months prior to the wedding to allow time for fittings and fabric acquisition (they source beading from the best artisans in India, and select re-embroidered lace from France). Moms working on a timeline can also choose from an assortment of first-rate gowns in the showroom. The store hosts trunk shows regularly, and can accommodate up to a size 22.

Lee Anderson
Lee Anderson is a designer known for her couture custom-made clothing in world-renowned fabrics. She established her design business in a townhouse just off Madison Avenue over 30 years ago, where she quickly became the go-to designer of stunning social dresses that perfectly compliment the tastes and figures of celebrities, socialites, and elegant mothers of the bride and groom. Today, the designer dedicates herself to her signature couture collection and special New York clientele in a new space at 988 Lexington Avenue. She continues to create clothing that embraces chromatic luxury using the most of-the-moment fabrics of the world, including iridescent taffetas, brocades, hand fringed British district checks and Celtic tweeds. Moms who wear Lee Anderson Couture tend to pass her name to friends — the perfect fit and luxe fabrics are so flattering, it’s hard not to share Lee’s love for well crafted, age-appropriate luxury fashion.

Colette Komm
For years, Colette Komm’s talents were a well-kept secret to NYC brides and socialites, who flocked to her Upper West Side studio for meticulously designed corsets, fluid silk column dresses and striking ball gowns custom created by the Vera Wang patternmaking alum, who, in 2010, was responsible for creating Chelsea Clinton’s grandmother’s dress for her Rhinebeck, New York nuptials. Since then, Colette has become a couture it-girl of sorts for brides, moms and matriarchs looking for truly couture, elegant social gowns. She works often months in advance, by appointment only, from her Manhattan studio.

Eleanor Schain
Brooklyn-based Elenaor Schain, Ltd has been in business for over 40 years, servicing mothers of the bride with traditional dresses from designers such as Stephen Yearick, Pamela Roland, Rubin Singer and Rene Ruiz, to name a few. The business is currently run by Eleanor’s daughters Andrea and Bonnie, who are adamant on “de-stressing the dress process” with competent sales staff and couture-level seamstresses on hand for every appointment. The store offers evening gowns, custom suits and elegant pant sets to suit a range of elevated, but traditional tastes.

Saks Fifth Avenue
From Aiden Mattox to Alexander McQueen (and almost every pricepoint in between), this midtown mecca carries the widest range of designer special occasion dresses in the city.
Moms who want to shyly scour the racks without interruption can snag an embellished, deco-inspired dress from Sue Wong or Tadashi Shoji for under $1,000 on the third floor, while fashionably glam MOBS can shimmy into a sequined signature wrap gown from DVF for an uber-chic look fitting of a rooftop fete. Going to a garden wedding? Saks stocks a vast array of ladylike Erdem dresses in feminine florals. Mom of a ballroom bride? The department store houses a range of silk faille Carolina Herrera gowns, so there’s no need to hightail uptown to the designer’s atelier. Grandmas can also shop to their heart’s content with a range of conservatively elegant St. John’s gowns in their designer collections. Whatever her style or budget, changes are mom and Grandma will both find some beautiful options at Saks.

Barneys New York
Fashionable moms in the know flock to Barney’s New York for a well-curated assortment of hot, of-the-moment designers, as well as esteemed industry luminaries who are often the focus of many a red-carpet moment. Top mother-of-the-bride lines here include Monique Lhuillier and J. Mendel, both who have their own ateliers only a few blocks away. But the Barneys shopping experience guarantees an edgy buying strategy (think: a fluid, moody merlot one-shouldered gown from Monique Lhuillier or a black and white crepe de chine lace sheath from J. Mendel, that is somehow equal parts modern and ladylike). Moms looking for (just the right about of) bling, can turn to Barney’s selection of Huishan Zhang, who is currently dusting his lace and organza gowns with crystal details. Want something mom can truly wear again? Valentino dresses reign high here — from fit and flare LBDs to romantic lace sheaths she’ll love long after the wedding day is over.

5 Super-Flattering Dresses for Pregnant Bridesmaids

With so many bridesmaid dresses out there — and the ongoing trend to mix and match both color and silhouette — it’s no wonder many brides get overwhelmed when picking out dresses for their girls! Then your bestie breaks the (amazing!) news that she’s preggo, and well, the task gets even harder! How do you find a dress that helps your friend feel like the positively glowing mama she is? Read on to find tips and tricks for selecting bump-friendly bridesmaid dresses your girls will adore!

5 Super-Flattering Dresses for Pregnant Bridesmaids

Tip 1: Go bra-friendly without being boring
Something you may not know until you are actually pregnant yourself? Going braless is often not an option. Your chest size can nearly double in pregnancy, and sometimes you can even leak before baby arrives … So basically, your girlfriend definitely doesn’t want to be free-bra-ing it at the altar. Chose a pretty style like the Beatriz by Dolly Pearl. Available in two lengths and 19 colors, Beatriz is a swing style silhouette with an interesting bow design at the bust that is anything but boring.
We love: The Beatriz Dress, Dolly Pearl

Tip 2: Consider an (upsized!) empire waist
The great thing about an empire waist dress, like the Laura or Julie from Donna Morgan, is that the boning ends beneath the bust, offering support, but allowing room for a growing belly. The Laura dress comes in a variety of colors (and one very punchy print!), but can also be mixed and matched with other dresses from the Donna Morgan Collection, allowing your pregnant bridesmaid to feel perfectly pretty on your big day! Another tip: Have her size up. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine what your body will look like in the second or third trimester Alterations can always be made to make a dress smaller, but a too-small dress cannot be let out!

Tip 3: Let Her Pick
The subtly-shaded bridesmaid dress trend is a perfect solution if you have one (or more!) pregnant bridesmaids, not to mention girls who may get pregnant during your engagement. The idea here has always been to pick a color palette and let your bridesmaid choose a dress within those shades. Your pregnant bridesmaid can select a gown that makes her feel the prettiest, and you can still keep a styled look across the whole wedding party (major win-win). Tip: To keep the look from getting sloppy, ask your bridesmaids to stick with one fabric — like chiffon — or one off the rack designer — like Adrianna Papell, whose dresses are available nationwide at Nordstrom.

Tip 4: Go Convertible!
When Ariane Goldman got married, she wanted her bridesmaids to feel absolutely fabulous , so she created twobirds bridesmaid, the original convertible wrap bridesmaid dress: one (no alterations needed!) dress that can be wrapped over a dozen ways to flatter nearly every figure. Twobirds dresses are amazing for your preggo BFF. Not only can they be wrapped with a comfy empire waist halter or concealing cap sleeve, the line also has an optional bandeau for added bust support, making twobirds awesome for mommas-to-be who crave chic coverage and comfort.
We love: The Tulle Ballgown, twobirds

Tip 5: Don’t rule out maternity lines
Did you know how majorly cool maternity lines have gotten these days? Believe me, long gone are the days of your mom’s mumu. The uber chic Panama Dress from HATCH has a shape that will flatter her as she grows, but suits a non-pregnant body just as keenly. In fact, all of the HATCH dresses are designed to wear before, during and after pregnancy, so this is definitely one gown your pregnant bridesmaid will shimmy into again.

Art-Deco Blush and Gold Wedding Details

Looking for some pretty wedding style inspiration on this cold Tuesday morning?  I was too, and thought it would be fun to dip into a board I worked on that pairs two uber-hot {and haute?} trends I’ve been seeing with my brides .

First HUGE wedding trend?  The use of soft, antiqued gold as a new neutral.  Another biggie?  The undying love for all things art-deco, be it in decor, stationery, fashion or flowers.  So I was thinking… we’ve seen these themes done a million times over, but how can we make these beautiful {and yes, somewhat overused} bridal style trends new again?  Well, why not combine them into a whole new world of pretty?!

Scroll below.  I love the end result… and while I usually keep my inspiration boards private for my clients eyes only , I thought this was worth sharing for the romantic yet fashionable bride-to-be.  Each element picks up on the somewhat antiqued vibe of of blush plus gold, but beveled edges, bits of bling, and graphic nips of old-meets-new {i.e. swoon-worthy Fornasetti plates! } somehow makes a melding of these two wedding trends totally fresh again….

Art-Deco Blush and Gold Wedding Details I hope you enjoyed!  What are some style trends that are inspiring you these days?

About the designer:

Tara LaTour’s gowns can be perfectly described as the essence of modern romanticism…

Tara”s interest in fashion was first sparked as a young child when she would rummage through her grandmother’s fabric drawers and  watch her construct wedding gowns.  These experiences left a huge impression on the designer and have served as a major influence in Tara’s life.

Tara pursued a fashion education at Parson New School for Design in New York City. While there, her new approach to bridal began to create a buzz in the industry, and upon graduation she decided it was time to make her dream of designing her very own bridal collection come true.

Tara’s bridal gowns are made to be both unique and wearable.  She is known for her attention to detail and hand-sewn fabric treatments which complete her ethereal and romantic vision.  Every collection is also kissed with color, her signature element.

When designing, she often looks to her family and where she is from for inspiration.  In Tara’s own words, “I am really proud of where I come from, the family I have around me and the experiences I have been fortunate to experience.  Those are the things that I find inspiration in and that drive me.”

Stylist’s hint: Be sure to scroll through the slideshow below for an exclusive sneak peek of the dresses at the trunk show at Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier… I had such fun looking at the amazing Tara LaTour gowns with Mark.  Not only were they amazingly stylish, but the construction and attention to detail was absolutely breathtaking!  Enjoy!
