As you may have noticed {from here , here or even here }, I’ve got a penchant for all things Monique Lhuillier . Whether it’s wedding gowns, ready to wear, or even home décor, I’ve always believed in Monique Lhuillier’s feminine aesthetic: A decidedly sweet look, familiarized by lace, boned bodices, and a subtle, yet signature sexiness…
This past Saturday evening, I had the pleasure of viewing Monique Lhillier’s Spring 2012 ready-to-wear presentation during New York Fashion Week, and while her familiar design elements were ever-present, Lhuillier lunged into unchartered territory by using them in a new way:
Lace {very Lhuillier} was pieced atop an electric yellow trench coat. Leather {not-so-Lhuillier} became subtly sweet when crossing the bust of a goddess-like gown. And most memorably: A standout pink cocktail dress bore no bodice, yet a string of black sequins subtly alluded to the designer’s signature silhouette.
The show was a nod to the style that first made Monique Lhuillier a wedding day favorite, and then catapulted her to red carpet fame… But it was also a challenging “look at what’s next,” from the petite powerhouse. Spring 2012 had a certain spunk that was freshly electric, yet still managed to emit the signature subtle sexiness and grace we’ve all come to love from Lhuillier.
