The event was co-hosted by The Wedding Library and Martha Stewart Weddings . {There were so many amazing vendors at the show, we’d need an entire blog just to show their beautiful work}. So here’s our best shot, as showcased with photos from Sofia Negron .
A gorgeous Sylvia Weinstock creation in all its glory {need we say more}?

The 2011 Wedding Party Event Recap | Part I

Last week, Merci New York has the pure pleasure of co-exhibiting at the Wedding Party event with Gabriella New York Bridal Salon . The event was co-hosted by Martha Stewart Weddings and the Wedding Library, and although we’ve been blogging about our unique event and fashion styling services for over a year, this was actually Merci’s first foray into wedding shows… The Palace Hotel was packed with enthusiastic brides, and we have been thrilled to field so many fabulous requests since the show! Take a peek at these photos from Sofia Negron …
When designing the booth, we wanted to showcase Gabriella’s beautiful gowns and accessories, plus Merci’s event and fashion styling services. So Merci designed an installation that presented photos from our portfolio {including a shoot with the ever-talented photographer, Elizabeth Messina for Delphine Manivet at Lovely }, and delicately displayed Gabriella’s dresses, accessories, hair flowers and pins at varying eye levels.
The 2011 Wedding Party Event Recap | Part I Bottom: Here’s a great little photo of me and my Merci New York girls! If you were at the event, you saw the Merci girls circling outside of the Martha Stewart Weddings wing, where our booth was so graciously housed. The girls gave little goodies to our guests, and spoke about our varied event and fashion styling services, from full-service design, down to engagement shoot styling and production, well-planned dress shopping assistance, day-of bridal dressing, and MUCH more . The 2011 Wedding Party Event Recap | Part I While you probably know that Gabriella has beautiful Ulla-Maija gowns and Sarah Gabriel veils and headpieces {like those shown above}, you may not be aware that she also stocks stunning, one of a kind vintage jewelry, too! We really wanted to show these off, so Gabriella’s gorgeous accessories sat in beds of blush carnations around a custom designed tablecloth that played up the vintage jewelry accents with little bits of metallic, but also muted the overall design with soft ballet pink details. Swag bag time! Did you know that Merci New York designs these little guys, too? {Drop me a line and we’ll tell you more about our welcome bags}. Gabriella New York Bridal Salon and Merci New York co-hosted the VIP luncheon and styled the models for the affair. Each of the ladies at the luncheon received a Merci-designed tote from Gabriella and Merci. Inside, there were amazing goodies from all the vendors at the show. {Want a bag – see below for a fun little giveaway….}.
The 2011 Wedding Party Event Recap | Part I Above, brides enter to win $750 of accessories from Gabriella and $750 of styling services from Merci New York {quite the prize if you ask me}! Below, the Merci teams smiles with Amanda and Rosa of NewlyWish . {Both Gabriella and I are Newlywish partners.. We’re excited for some wonderful things to come with these ladies in the not-too-distant future}.

So… I did mention a giveaway, and I know I’m not getting off the hook without one. Comment below with your name and wedding date, and we’ll choose a winner at random to receive one of the darling VIP totes with custom calligraphy, packed with all the event goodies, plus a Merci boatneck tee {share your size} and an exclusive voucher for 15 percent off any Merci styling service .

A very, very big thank you to Sofia Negron Photography for capturing all these photos so beautifully.

What We Love | Emily Elizabeth Spring 2011 Collection

Ah, snowpocalypse, you are driving Merci mad!
Last night I took to the town in five inch patent peep toes {albeit with tights}, as my little way of saying you know what to all this snow. It was one of my stupidest moves yet, and while a crowd of fashionable gay men applauded my efforts as I shuffled down the sidewalks of the West Village, I almost broke my neck about fifty times. So, I’ve decided to take a less dangerous approach to boycotting this weather, with two tiny {yet lovely} little words: Spring Shopping.
What We Love | Emily Elizabeth Spring 2011 Collection Ultimately, I’m craving girly grosgrain, bright colors, and preppy, yet edgy accents. Something that goes well with a sundress, flip flops and a summer day. Something like the Spring 2011 Kaleidoscopic Collection by Emily Elizabeth Jewelry .
According to designer Emily Elizabeth Kolins, “This season, I wanted to bring in color and fun into my collection – pieces that counteract any ‘darkness’ that the wearer encounters with an upbeat and lighthearted style.” I hear ya, Emily.
Plated in 14k gold, the pieces retail for $30-$150 {awesome} and the ribbon necklaces and bracelets can be customized in a variety of colors {think bridesmaid gifts}.
I think I may pick up a few pieces and hightail it somewhere warm….
The new collection is available here .

1. Bee Studs , $30; 2. Horseshoe Ribbon Bracelet , $48; 3. Open Star Bangle , $65; 4. Star Ribbon Necklace , $140; 5. Adam Ribbon Necklace , $140; 6. Flat Flower Studs , $48; 7. Cards Necklace Set , $70.

Tuesday Shoesday | Topshop Steals

Tuesday Shoesday | Topshop Steals So, I know I’ve been getting a bit of {teasing} grief for only posting uber-luxe selects on Merci New York’s Tuesday Shosday features. {I can’t help it. The eye candy consumes me}.
Since I myself am no stranger to scoring a cute shoe at a great price, I’ve decided to switch it up…
These darling TopShop flats ring in at a wallet-friendly $40… and could very well be your requisite reception shoe, or a chic little beach wedding / honeymoon staple. They come with a cute, raw edge rosette toe and soft suede heel, yet still remain tres-bon for the budget!
I last spotted them at the Soho store, but they are available online, here .

Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids

This morning, I had an epiphany. Well, that’s a bit dramatic. More of a “realization.”
I noticed I only show the final product of our editorial work . The photos are undoubtedly beautiful, but as a stylist, the photoshoot process is my favorite part… It’s a jigsaw puzzle of pieces that must fit together and capture all the elements the client wants to portray, regardless of the elements {weather, staffing, etc} within a set time. It’s a lot like a wedding!
So today, I thought we’d give you a sneak peek of one such process – the Swoon Bridesmaid dress campaign, which I was thrilled to style alongside my friend and tres-talented photographer, Trent Bailey . While Trent was behind the lens shooting all things Swoon, Samantha Shay Photography captured the hustle and bustle of a photoshoot in progress… not to mention all the {fun} work it takes to land one ad page in Martha Stewart Weddings !
Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Here I am {with my dorky, yet necessary} styling belt, making sure our model’s wardrobe and accessory is as perfect as planned… I’m joined by Paul of Facetime Beauty Concierge , who came on board for hair and make-up.
Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Part of a stylist’s job is sourcing accessories and coordinating looks for each shot. Everyone has their own process; this is mine. I pulled accessories from Emily Elizabeth Jewelry , Monet Jewelry and Peggy Li Creations , then placed each look in a clear lucite box for easy handling.
Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Here are the dresses, which flew into my home office from sunny California. Unfortunately for us, the weather in New York was less than stellar {flash floods and stormy skies!}, but we hoped for the best, so we could shoot in Central Park as planned. Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Here, our model’s curls set as Paul begins to work on her make-up. The gowns are steamed and ready to rock.
Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids The finished make-up look {and a few test shots as well}. The team decided on a dewy and natural look that suited Swoon’s soft and ethereal brand qualities. Paul did a wonderful job! Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Top: Swoon’s owner and designer, the lovely Amy Wong Micucci, cozies up on a couch at Merci’s office, hoping for the rain to stop. Bottom: When the weather gods failed to hear our prayers, Trent Bailey saved the day by arranging studio space for the early AM outfits. Not shown: The team continues their {no} rain dances. Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Trent shows Amy some studio images… and it seems like the shots are really showcasing the clothing well…
Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Top: A sneak peek of a jewelry roll from Merci’s styling kit. {Even though I pulled accessories from designers, it always make sense to bring my kit for classic items and layering pieces}. Bottom: “Jumping in” between shots is a workout – but a well needed one. The smallest shift in accessories, hair or wardrobe can lead to thousands of dollars of retouching. Better safe than sorry.
Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Weather gods, rejoice! We received a quick reprieve from the rain and quickly rushed uptown to Central Park to snag the shots Amy wanted. It was time to act fast and get solid, quality images in a short lead time!
After a full day of work, here are six of Amy’s final selects….
Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Portfolio: Advertorial Shoot for Swoon Bridesmaids Which of these do you like the best? Hint: One has been retouched to perfection and is featured in all its glossy glory in the winter issue of Martha Stewart Weddings Winter 2011 issue…

Real NYC Engagement | Katie + Tim

Today’s engagement session comes compliments of the bride, the lovely Katie Klumper. Katie and I chatted about her wedding vision a few months ago, so needless to say, I knew her engagement session would be spectacular before I even opened the files…
Katie and Tim’s brief to their photographer, Jennifer Sosa , was to capture the romance of the city, so they shot in Central Park, The Highline and Meatpacking District. According to Katie, as they started shooting, they ran into multiple couples all shooting in the same locations… Their objective was to do the opposite of everything they were doing, and put a fun spin on their day…
Real NYC Engagement | Katie + Tim Real NYC Engagement | Katie + Tim Real NYC Engagement | Katie + Tim How they met {by Katie & Tim}
If meeting in person isn’t enough, online dating really seals the deal. We always wonder what would have been the third meeting place…
Katie hails from Vancouver, Canada and moved to New York City in two years ago for a big, exciting advertising job {a la Mad Men style}. She fell in love with the city almost immediately, but her burgeoning career left little time for finding Mr. Crowell, um, I mean, Mr. Right.
Tim is originally from New Jersey and has lived in the New York area for many years. In all that time, he has always gravitated towards the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan where he once worked and continues to socialize. A warm, outgoing charmer, he dated frequently but struggled to find the right Katie, um, I mean girl.
But then late one night at his favorite pub, the Gaf, his eyes fell on a tall, beautiful woman with the most dazzling smile he had ever seen. Tim tried in vain to strike up a conversation with her, but she wasn’t paying attention. It didn’t matter, though; he was already falling in love.
A month went by, and Tim still hadn’t forgotten about The Beauty from The Gaf but he also didn’t expect anything to happen between them. Fortunately, fate stepped in to help things along… Tim and Katie soon stumbled upon each other’s profiles on Match.com!
Tim realized immediately that this was the same woman from the Gaf who had rebuffed him. Still, somewhat miffed that this terrific woman hadn’t immediately recognized him as a fellow terrific human being, Tim initially ignored her online advances. So when she asked him, “Do you know any good wine bars in the area?” Tim coyly replied, “Sure, I can send you a list of some great ones.” It may have taken her a little longer to see the potential, but Katie is one persistent lady, and she refused to give up on this tall, dashing man. So when she got his response, she rolled her eyes at her computer screen and shot back, “Or maybe you could take me out to one of them.” {Sometimes a guy has to be hit over the head before he realizes he’s found the woman of his dreams}.
And boy has he ever. And now Tim and Katie are looking forward to marrying the one of their dreams and celebrating with their nearest and dearest, in New York City…

Snapshots from a Wedding | Ariel + James at Coney Island

By Amelie Mauduit, Special Markets Editor

When Ariel and James were planning their wedding, they wanted an unconventional and free-spirited celebration, but they were also intent on preserving a bit of Jewish tradition… It’s certainly not an uncommon request, but we love their take on it: An extremely intimate religious ceremony, followed by {what else?} a fun Coney Island photo session. The results are a hip combination of fashion, ferris wheels and a Brooklyn love story, wonderfully captured by Cengiz from Adagion Studio .
Snapshots from a Wedding | Ariel + James at Coney Island Snapshots from a Wedding | Ariel + James at Coney Island Snapshots from a Wedding | Ariel + James at Coney Island Photography: Adagion Studio
Ceremony site: Temple Beth Elohim
Officiant: Rabbi Andy Bachman
Dress: BCBG

Ariel and James definitely didn’t hesitate to play with their outfits. For the four-person religious ceremony, the bride wore an elegant floor-length Nicole Miller gown, but later switched to a flirty BCBG cocktail mini {affectionately nicknamed “the chicken dress” by the couple}. The groom wore a traditional black suit from Banana Republic, which he tastefully customized with a pair of vintage black suspenders with white polka-dots, purchased at the Brooklyn flea, and a pair of Adidas Rod laver sneakers.

From the bride:
We’ve made a custom of what we call “urban hiking”, walking 20 miles on a given day to slowly and intimately become familiar with all parts of New York City. Early on in our relationship, we fell in love with Coney Island. It was beautiful in a decrepit and seedy way that we uniquely appreciate so we wanted to celebrate our union by braving the rides at Coney Island’s boardwalk and amusement park. The iconic ferris wheel, Deno’s WonderWheel, already had a special place in our heart. What I love about the ferris wheel photo is it is absolutely arresting. The colors are beautiful, the setting is wild, there are all things and objects and colors and movement all around our cage, and yet, in the middle of the craziness we’re still, and with all the visual stimuli around us, our photographer was able to capture a moment where our eyes lock and nothing else around us matters.
The ceremony was extremely intimate, just me, my husband, my mother, my father and our rabbi inside the amber lit Beth Elohim Synogogue. Many elements of our wedding were untraditional; being married in a synagogue by a rabbi was the one traditional element that I stood by.
