Paul will be writing guest posts that give you an inside look into his world. He will provide hair care and styling advice perfectly suited to brides and bridesmaids in all stages of planning who want to avoid any beauty meltdowns and make sure their styles are up-do-date with locks that looking their shining best! Paul let me know that working with brides is favorite part of his job because he loves bringing beauty to the most important day of a woman’s life. As readers who have been following Liz and Colin will remember, I tagged along when Liz went to see Paul for her all-important final cut and color before her Bahamas wedding. As a relaxing {and entertaining!} respite during a day full of last-minute wedding errands, Liz visited Paul’s fabulous salon & spa at the CORE: Club for her appointment. This one-stop-beauty shop that Paul has personally built for wedding parties is nestled in NYC’s exclusive CORE: Club . This midtown location has everything a bride needs to get primped and pampered for her BIG day! Paul Labrecque customizes visits with spa cuisine, champagne, and any combination of services to suit the bride and her party. From luxurious facials to relaxing massages to body treatments and makeup, and cut, style, color, and nail services—brides will be covered from head to toe! Quiet and serene, it’s the perfect place to bring the whole bridal party for some much needed and deserved beauty R&R.
Liz’s color was done two weeks before her wedding to avoid the all-too-common ring of roots that is notorious for showing up in photos if a bride’s final color appointment is not well-timed.
· Start with a bridal countdown that begins six months before the big day. You should first schedule a consultation with your hair stylist. I ask all my brides to come with pictures of styles they love, pictures of themselves with hair looks they liked, etc—this will help to create style interpretations that are just right for you.
· On the day of your hair and makeup trial, give your stylist or makeup artist as much information to work with as possible. Bring a photo of your wedding dress, tear sheets from your favorite bridal magazines and communicate with them about both your everyday look and your desired bridal look.
· You will then determine what part(s) of your hair need to grow out, what needs to be cut and how your overall color should look. The consultation will also help you with the timing on everything to bring the whole look together for the big day.
· To protect your hair from over blow drying and damage, have a Keratin Reconditioning Treatment 5 to 6 months before your wedding. The Keratin treatment eliminates frizz and makes blow drying incredibly easy and quick. You will not need to blow dry your hair as often, which will protect it from over heating and breakage.
· I prefer to have my brides come in for a cut two weeks before the actual wedding date. This allows the ends to grow out a bit so they look natural and not blunt.
· If your budget allows, consider hiring your makeup artist and hair stylist for outcall visits to your hotel or home. You’ll feel more relaxed and the efficiency is worth the splurge.
Paul recommends starting an intensive conditioning treatment five weeks before your wedding date. Try his Paul Labrecque Repair Condition Lemongrass Hair and Scalp Treatment, which is formulated to strengthen and restore hair’s natural luster and vitality. For brides that didn’t plan ahead, Paul also offers ways to “fake” a healthy mane for the big day—that can be done at the last minute:
· Have your stylist use a straightening or curling iron AND a leave-in hydrating treatment (like Paul Labrecque Repair Style Hydrating Hair Lotion) with a high-gloss finishing spray (try Paul Labrecque Curly Finish High Gloss Spray Shine). If the hair is conditioned AND heated properly it will glow for the entire day even if your hair isn’t in its best shape.
A warm welcome and big thank you to Paul Labrecque for joining Merci New York as our resident beauty contributor. We are thrilled to share his knowledge and expertise and look forward to his next beauty post tres-soon!
