How did Joey Propose?

We got engaged on a bridge overlooking Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. Joey invited both of our parents to join us in Europe for a vacation visiting 5 different countries and, to my surprise, so they could be there for the big proposal! I have a nerdy love for Disneyland, and Neuschwanstein is what Walt Disney modeled his castles after. So Joey put a lot of thought into the proposal and definitely made it unique to us.

How did you and Joey meet?

Joey and I met while working at a local mexican restaurant 6 years ago. He was the cute to-go guy, and I was the hostess who had a big crush on him. We began dating right after I graduated high school and have been inseparable ever since!

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

There are so many favorite moments from that day, but if I had to choose, it would be the irreplaceable moments with my new husband. At the alter, before we said our vows, he whispered “You look so beautiful.” That little sentiment meant the world to me. Also, our first dance together was a very special and intimate moment together.

Just having everyone that matters in both of our lives come together to celebrate our love, was breathtaking. I will never forget the love I felt that day from everyone.

What inspired your wedding day designs?

I have always been fond of vintage and romantic style, so I used a lot of soft colors and old items to make it feel like us. We used milk glass (which I collect and love), old books, and candles as our centerpieces to tie in the vintage feel. Our colors were soft yellow and gray, (which was my husbands choice actually!) and I added light shades of pink to the mix through the flowers because it is my favorite color. A lot of the inspiration came from my dress. I feel like the bride’s dress is the centerpiece of the day and should fit with the overall feeling and decor.

Do you have any advice for other brides planning their wedding?

Remember to relax and let things go! There are going to be issues on the big day, but honestly, nothing else matters than the fact that you are marrying the love of your life. Your wedding will be perfect because it’s yours!

Also, always take help when offered. People offer their help because they love you and want your day to be as special as you dream it to be.

Is there anything extra special/memorable about your day that you want to include in this feature?

One of my favorite parts of the decor for the wedding was the memory photo table. Joey and I gathered photos of our grandparents (most of which have passed) from their weddings and put them in frames. We also used my grandparents wedding cake topper from 1933 on our cake, which my parents also used on theirs. We wanted to keep the tradition going. We also chose the date of our wedding because it would have been my grandfather’s 104th birthday.

Also, Joey and I both love food and my favorite dessert is creme brûlée. So during our reception, we had a creme brûlée station set up for guests and it was a hit! People lined up and kept coming back for more AND it made our reception smell delicious!
