Real New York Wedding | Katie + Chris in the Hamptons

Alright, so you caught me. I ::may:: have been running our little summer inspiration series as a prelude to this gorgeous Hamptons wedding. Alright, I definitely was. But could you blame me?
Katie and Chris’s nuptials just embody all things “summer escape” to me. The polished, pretty fashion against blue sky and sandy beaches. The vintage trolley and cheeky Hunter rainboots. Fun friends, sea-inspired details, classic decor, and a favorite Hampton hideaway… Truly, what better way is there to bring on the holiday?

From the Bride:
Chris and I met our second semester senior year at Fordham. I lived with six girls and he lived with six guys. It was a group effort on our roommates part to set us up, but once we began dating, we were absolutely inseparable. {Funny enough, one of my roommates and one of his roommates are getting married this August}. Chris proposed at the Bronx Zoo, which is in walking distance of the Fordham campus.
Leading up to the wedding, Chris was diagnosed with cancer. He had to endure emergency surgery to have the malignant tumor removed. The wedding marked his seventh month in remission, so going through with the wedding and having Chris healthy was a feat in and of itself, not to mention another reason to celebrate.
We wanted a small, intimate wedding with a fun party twist. I envisioned everything crisp and clean with lots of white and pops of navy blue here and there. But most importantly, we wanted our guests to relax, have fun, and just help us celebrate!
The chapel and the Inn are located on the street I grew up on; they are maybe 1/10 of a mile apart. My parents were actually married there as well.
The cake and floral designers are both located in Quogue. I’ve known them my whole life, so it was easy to trust them completely… I asked our floral designer for a ton of big white blooms and they delivered tenfold! Our cake was chocolate cake with cannoli filling and the pattern on the cake matched my dress. Not only was it beautiful, it tasted amazing.
I saw my shoes in Martha Stuart Weddings and just knew I needed them. I searched high and low for two weeks, finally spotting them at a store in California. I swear I found the last pair and they had my size. Complete fate!
Despite my detailed planning, some details from our big day were actual last-minute impulses. For example, I found my floral hair clips at J. Crew the day before the wedding!

From Missy Photography:
Having been artistic since birth and a fan of all things lovely, it wasn’t long after meeting the love of my life that the epiphany of “Missy plus wedding photography” hit. I get giddy every time I meet a couple who has found their life-love. I can’t help but enter each wedding with excitement, spunk and devotion.
I now service both coasts and am willing and eager to travel anywhere on the map. I am a proud and honored member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association and the Artistic Guild of Wedding Photojournalistic Association. Please feel free to spend a little time perusing the Praise portion on my blog for publications and client recommendations. I’d love to hear from you.

Summer Inspiration | Lauren Pierce Atelier by Lauren Bush

With many brides prepping for their honeymoons {and the rest of us getting ready for the Fourth}, summer style has been top of mind at Merci New York. That said, we’ve been showcasing our favorite finds for easy summer days and celebrations, but if you know us well enough, you’re probably wondering why we haven’t talked fashion… yet.
To be honest, the topic could have been intimidating. {Featuring one line out of our many favs is tough}! But after only a second of thought, we knew the best brand for the job. In our mind, there’s only one summer-inspired line out there that is just so terribly chic, fabulously fierce and wonderfully philanthropic. And that’s Lauren Pierce .
Summer Inspiration | Lauren Pierce Atelier by Lauren Bush If you’re not in the know, Lauren Pierce is the brainchild of fashion designer, philanthropist {and former First-Niece} Lauren Bush; who is known in New York and beyond for creating FEED Projects , the renowned eco-friendly, burlap handbags whose proceeds go to feed hungry children in schools. With Lauren Pierce , Bush has taken her design philosophy one step further. Her brightly colored dresses are made from fabrics created by local artisans in developing countries, and therefore support the livelihoods and traditional crafts of these mostly women-owned businesses.
Summer Inspiration | Lauren Pierce Atelier by Lauren Bush But if feeling, warm, fuzzy and fabulous isn’t enough, there’s more. The Lauren Pierce line can be custom designed just for you. Just pick the fabric, pick the silhouette and in six weeks, you will receive your design with a personalized label noting the name of the artisan woman who made your dress. Voila! You’re gorgeous, chic and philanthropic, too!
So now you see why Lauren Pierce has our vote. And though you’ve probably already grasped the wedding correlation, we’ll just have to drive it home for you… Honeymoon, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner and bridesmaid dresses. Check, check, check and check! Needless to say, these frocks are absolutely perfect for all of the above.

Summer Inspiration | Dewdrop Designs by Gillian Stevens

So it seems the universe really wants me to go on vacation. My inbox has become a goldmine of pretty little gems for the jet-set… and since every submission is more gorgeous than the next- I’m just going to succumb {and spend the next week beachside in New England}!
For the remainder of the week, Merci New York will be sharing getaway-bound inspiration. So if your headed to your honeymoon, or just prepping for the holiday weekend – we certainly have got the goods to keep you chic. First up: stylish recycled luxury leather goods from Gillian at Dewdrop Designs . Summer Inspiration | Dewdrop Designs by Gillian Stevens Summer Inspiration | Dewdrop Designs by Gillian Stevens Summer Inspiration | Dewdrop Designs by Gillian Stevens Really, can Gillian’s gorgeous designs get any more beach-chic?
From bridesmaid gifts to summer self-indulgences, the whole Dewdrop line is pretty posh {and very versatile}. Gillian’s cuffs just epitomize relaxed cool, and her tiny travel journals are to die for.
And while they certainly double as great guest books, I’m already dreaming of carrying one of her pretty little notebooks to the beach. The pages are hand stitched to the leather using natural beeswax and linen bookbinding and open flat so you can draw {and daydream} all the way into the margins.

Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine

This may be a silly question, but have you seen issue #4 of Nonpareil Magazine ? It totally rocks and needless to say, Merci New York was thrilled to be a part of it!
I had an amazing time styling the Mad Men inspired spread shot by Whitney and Dustin of Oh Darling Photography , and loved dreaming up other “big-day, small-details” for the shoot, such as DIY mint julep favors {with custom printables!} and a retro “lunch box” welcome guest gift. But the most fun came from propping my family’s vintage car, and having the help and hard work of my close family and friends on set. So before I share some fab pics… Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine A big, big thank you to my dad - who brought his {other} baby, my great grandmother’s classic 1966 Chevelle, and trusted me to doll it to pure 60s wedding perfection. It totally drove home the theme… {no pun intended}.
And of course to my husband, Michael Weppner, and good friend Annie Soderstrom, who posed as our fabulous Draper-esque couple and allowed me to play Barbie with them all morning… You guys were amazing!
Thank you’s complete, I’d love to share a few unpublished shots of Merci New York’s work on the shoot! These projects really spoke to what the business-end of our company is all about- making sure that little wedding details are wonderfully smashing… Enjoy! Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine I wanted to work with “inspired” fashion that didn’t appear costumed. Michael is wearing an Armani suit, Canali shirt, vintage tie and Gucci loafers. Annie’s gorgeous retro-inspired dress was pulled from one of my favorite designers of the moment, Prabal Gurung , and was accented with a vintage fabric flower from my styling kit. Her shoes are from J Crew. Accessories: luggage from Janelle Sing, bouquet by Poppies + Posies. The fedora is also vintage, from my styling kit.
Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine I just love this car. As a classic 60s “muscle car,” my dad’s 1966 Chevelle has been featured in period films such as American Gangster, Driving in Cars with Boys, and Spike Lee’s Crooklyn, to name a few. Because it’s not as typical as other vintage cars, grooms love it. It’s rented often for events within the NYC area {feel free to email me for details}. Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine Staging a location can be tricky. Here, I wanted to show the red door of a firehouse on 77th and Amsterdam. Of course, this was an active driveway, and moments after we perfectly positioned the car and cans, sirens rang and the trucks needed to rush out. But the few shots we had were great.
Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine I designed this “Mix a Mint Julep” favor as a crafty nod to Mad Men’s frequent mixology -the shape, textures and polish of this design would make it the perfect placesetting as well…. Pop by Nonpareil for the step by step DIY, as well as Merci New York’s great printable cocktail card. It’s sweet, and delicious! Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine The idea behind the fashion styling was to keep the looks “60s inspired”, but not too costume-y. In lieu of a tight chingon or overdone hair, we elected to keep Annie’s hair softly tousled, and let the dramatic dress do the talking. Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine Out of town welcome gifts and baskets have become a staple at many weddings, and they were the focus of Merci New York’s styling business in its early development. We always try to create stylized, unique details for our welcome gifts. They’re your guests’ first impression of your wedding, so it makes sense to give them a taste of what’s to come. The foods inside the retro lunch box are all sixties inspired, and the welcome note marries back to the theme as well. Content details and how-tos are located at Nonpareil.
Portfolio: Merci’s Mad Men Inspired Details | Nonpareil Magazine Be sure to check out the full story on Nonpareil , where you can see more floral and event design work from Poppies & Posies , catering from Stuart & Welch and the above custom luggage from Janelle Sing as well!

Real NYC Engagement Session | Angela + Jeff

There’s something so special about an early summer evening in New York. No matter how long I’ve lived here, the long stretches of daylight and unexpected city calm both surprise and delight me every year. Which is why I love this engagement shoot.
Submitted to Merci New York by R. Wagner Photography , Angela and Jeff’s pretty Brooklyn Heights shoot captures the calm and romance of summer in the city. Brightly colored doors, sweeping Manhattan views, and quintessential brownstones truly provide the perfect backdrop for their playful love, fun personalities {and fab preppy-chic style}! Their wedding will be this August at the Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle. Real NYC Engagement Session | Angela + Jeff Real NYC Engagement Session | Angela + Jeff Real NYC Engagement Session | Angela + Jeff Real NYC Engagement Session | Angela + Jeff Real NYC Engagement Session | Angela + Jeff About the photographer:
According to Robert Wagner , there are few other moments in life that are as prolific as the beauty and complexity of the bride, groom and their growing family. When photographing weddings, Robert captures each moment as it unfolds naturally, preserving the legacy of couples through the passion of photography.
On most weekends you can find Robert photographing weddings—either in New York {where he lives} or in various locations around the US and abroad. Robert finds wedding ceremonies to be more than just a series of actions, people and images to be “captured,” but rather recognizes them as events full of deep personal and cultural significance. He enjoys getting to know each one of his clients through the places, symbols, rituals, and yes—food—that are unique to their tradition and infuses those elements into the story he tells through pictures.

Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Central Park Boathouse {part II}

We’re so thrilled to be back with Part II of Allie and Steve’s touching Manhattan wedding. Yesterday, Merci New York shared their gorgeous getting-ready photos at The Plaza , and today we’re giving you a peek of their pre-wedding photos around Midtown, as well as their beautiful ceremony and reception at the Central Park Boathouse .
And of course, we’re picking up where we left off on Allie’s story. Just wait until you hear how she incorporated Steve’s letters from Iraq into their wedding day details…. it’s too sweet for words. Enjoy! More from the bride:
After we left The Plaza, we wanted to get some fun city pictures without compromising our time with our guests. It was a very special moment and Jenny and Josh did such an incredible job capturing it. Walking with our wedding party in Times Square was amazing as well. There were so many people cheering for us, the excitement shook away our nerves.
We love Central Park. From the Rambles to Sheep’s Meadow, I feel like we know every corner.. so the Loeb Boathouse was an easy pick. It is a beautiful setting and our weather could not have been better.
After the ceremony everyone grabbed a flute of champagne and we walked over to the Bethesda Fountainto grab a group shot that included every single person at our wedding that day. The walk was short and it was pretty fun leading the pack through Central Park with champagne!
My dress was simple a Melissa Sweet with some gathering at the hip and fabric flowers, I got it at a sample sale at Saks and took it to Ally Bespoke Tailors , who made it fit like a glove. I also added some flare with an ostrich feather hairpin off Etsy {via PowderBlueBijoux} and splurged on the Blahniks, which doubled as great honeymoon shoes over in Paris.
The Boathouse has exposed beams and a nautical vibe, so we bought rustic lanterns from Pottery Barn to play up the theme. Cupcakes were easy, inexpensive and fantastic from Magnolias. I found some really cute wooden cupcake toppers that were personalized to look like us as well as our bridal party off of Etsy {via goosegrease}.
Our placecards were the most personal accent to our wedding. Each card included a letter that Steve had written to me while he was over in Iraq. He had written to me every day! Some letters made me cry, while others made me laugh out loud. Of course, I had to edit to make sure they were not too personal, but they were a hit.
Our get away vehicle was our little green Vespa that my bridesmaids dolled up. I am pretty sure that is where I lost my veil but it didn’t matter it was truly an amazing night.
Planning a wedding in NYC can be overwhelming because there are so many options, but perspective is key. Having Steve away at war made it so painfully obvious what was really important. The details were a good distraction but the common goal was never out of sight. Getting him back safe and getting to be together again, was really all that mattered. He is back home now for good and we are finally starting our life together. Our wedding day was amazing and I know it was just the beginning of a fantastic life together.

About the photographers: Josh & Jenny Solar are high school sweethearts turned husband and wife photography team. They have fun taking pictures…and fully expect you to do the same. As per Jenny, “If you’re not having a great time, we’re not having a great time, and we LOVE to have a great time.”
“On your wedding day, expect us to be right next to you the whole day. And when we say right next to you, we mean it,” Jenny says. “The emotion that flows throughout your day is what makes us LOVE hanging out with you so much. So you can bet if you’re crying with your parents {and if it happens to be Josh, he’ll be crying along with you}, or laughing with your friends, we’re going to be right there with you capturing those moments .”

Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Plaza {Part I}

We just love a great love story here at Merci New York, and Allie and Steve’s certainly takes the cake. In fact, we love it so much that we had to split their wedding into two features {you’ll understand why once you hear Allie’s story in its entirety}… But for now, here’s Part I.
Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Plaza {Part I} Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Plaza {Part I} Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Plaza {Part I} Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Plaza {Part I} Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Plaza {Part I} Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Plaza {Part I} Real New York Wedding | Allie + Steve at The Plaza {Part I} From the Bride: Steve and I met as passengers on a plane a little over three years before we got engaged. He is my very best friend and I know I am biased, but he has to be the easiest man to fall in love with. Steve is a helicopter pilot for the National Guard, so the possibility of his deployment loomed over us during our initial stage of wedding planning. Sure enough, months after our engagement, he was given his orders to deploy over to Iraq for 1 year. After much thought, we decided to “break up” the deployment by getting married over his two-week leave home.
I picked Steve up from Laguardia two days before our wedding. It was the first time I have cried from being overwhelmingly happy… We were staying at The Plaza for the weekend so had a nice venue to get ready for the big day in.
These pictures capture the start of our big day…

Be sure to tune in tomorrow for more of Allie’s story, and details from their gorgeous wedding celebration at the Central Park Boathouse.

Special Moments Between Brides and Their Dads | Aisledash

It’s been a big week here at Merci New York! I had the pleasure of writing for The Plaza’s June newsletter , there was our lovely styling spread on The Wedding Chicks , our friends at Crave NYC wrote a wonderful interview story on our services, and somehow the shoe mega-retailer Piperlime counted Merci New York among their favorite wedding blogs. Wow. To put it lightly, I’m more than humbled by all the love! Special Moments Between Brides and Their Dads | Aisledash But, speaking of love, there’s one little piece of press that really hit my heart this week. This Sunday, June 20th {which happens to be our two-year wedding anniversary!}, is also Father’s Day. In honor of dads and their daughters, the editors of Aisledash have compiled some really touching moments between brides and their dads, and I am just over the moon that they selected a moment my dad and I shared during our Father-Daughter dance. My dad means the world to me, and as I am sure many of you can relate, no matter how “grown-up” I actually am, I will always feel like his little girl.
So mosey on over to Aisledash and take a peek at all the great pictures and sweet daddy-daughter stories; they’re sure to put a tear in your eye. And then come on back over here… We’d love to hear the special moments you plan to share with your dad on your wedding day {or about the memories you already have}! Happy weekend!
xx,
Jacqueline

Sneak Peek | New York City Bridal Fashion Shoot

Good morning, all! Today I thought you might want to sneak a peek at a fun editorial project Merci New York is working on with New York City photographer Sofia Negron . Since this is a working project, we’ve tried our best to keep it under wraps, but the start of this flirty little editorial shoot was just too fun to not share….
The photos are teaser images from a more comprehensive editorial shoot of chic city brides in gritty downtown locales. The day started with hair, make up and styling prep at the Merci New York office, followed by a scurry to our downtown sets. Sneak Peek | New York City Bridal Fashion Shoot Sneak Peek | New York City Bridal Fashion Shoot And here’s a peek at the fashion editorial. I just love the juxtaposition of pretty, girly style and the urban landscape! We truly wanted to pair chic panache and city grit, so we set off on a renegade mission across the meat packing district, hitting all the hidden corners and city landmarks the area had to offer. {And oh yes, that’s our little Audrey-esque bride at the classic biker bar, Hogs and Heifers . Doesn’t she look delightful as she watches the bartenders two step atop the bar}?

The meat packing district is a perfect location for wedding photos and engagement shoots, all it takes is a walk along the cobblestone streets to find some really great backdrops, such as the pretty Charlie Chaplin graffiti, geometric ground floor windows of The Standard Hotel , or {with some coaxing from yours truly} a double decker bus parked between shifts.

Full story to come soon! Hope you enjoyed our little sneak peek and behind the scenes shots!
