What We Love | Gilded Goodness by Cabin 7

Have you ever become really excited about a small detail? A little something special? A token you just need to have?
Last night I had the pleasure of meeting Jen L’Italien from Cabin 7 at a pre-Stationery Show dinner here in New York. We chatted about her great blog and her new shop , which she opened a few weeks ago with childhood friend Chris Haber. It sounded amazing, so when I got home I took a quick peek. I found this…

Chris and Jen’s new line is a labor of love focused on the art of gilding and their passion for antiquing. The ladies scour flea markets near and far for charming vintage finds, then gild all their pieces by hand, applying the same method for oil gilding as furniture restorers use on antique pieces. The gorgeous results look something like this:

While the vintage gilded blocks would make a pretty addition to your mantel, desk or bookcase, I’m really loving them as wedding decorating details. Perhaps the couple’s names are spelled out at a sign-in table, their initials placed along a dessert display, or even that very cute “merci” is strewn along tiers of favors… And those gilded cardholders? Menu cards, place settings… you get my point! Rustic, yet chic. Simple, yet special. Love that.
