Fun, Eclectic California Engagement Shoot

I'm loving this engagement shoot captured by Ashley Williams Photography because it seems to have it all. It's super fun and eclectic, with so many personal touches. Every vignette and photo spot has a special meaning to the couple, as Allison does such a great job of describing.

"The first thing I ever gave CJ was a picture I drew illustrating one of the first times we hung out together," said Allison. "The drawing commemorates a night we had on the beach. We talked, got to know each other, kissed and he taught me all about the ocean, the tides, the moon, and how they all affect each other. I thought it was beautiful, so I drew the moon as he explained it, detailed with its craters, and a wave intricate with movement and patterns because that's how I saw them as he explained them. The picture means a lot to me, and we always tell each other, 'I love you to the moon and back,' and remember those first moments we had together on the beach that night."

"When it came to our save the date, I really wanted something down to earth, organic, simple, and 'us'. I wanted to recreate the drawing I made for him, but this time add color. CJ painted the sun [to symbolize] me and I recreated my old drawing for him. Together, we created a bigger, better hybrid replica of the original picture I drew for him five years ago."

"CJ and I have always loved spending time on the beach together. Our pictures on the beach reflect our laughter, playfulness and happiness that is us! Bicycle riding is something we started doing together when we moved in together. Living in San Juan Capistrano, we always bike downtown and just recently bought each other new beach cruisers. We feel so lucky to have so many places close to our home to bike to, and wanted to show what a day in the life of Allison and CJ is really like in our engagement session. The picture of us kissing on our bikes was shot in a field next to our wedding venue, which is perfect foreshadowing for what is to come later this year!"

Peaceful Family Beach Wedding in Florida Keys

"Ever since we met, there has been a calmness and serenity surrounding Jason and I's relationship," said the bride, Kate. "I think it was clear very early on that, 'This is it' and with that understanding, came a sense of security and comfort. So naturally, when we got engaged after dating for 2 years, we knew right away we wanted a wedding that reflected our relationship and our laid-back personalities. Since our dream was to have a simple, peaceful wedding day, we decided to make our wedding a family-only event."

This intimate family wedding in Key West certainly does have a peaceful serenity to it, just as Jason and Kate had planned. The beach, the beautiful flowers, tiki torches and lanterns, aqua mason jars and crisp white linens all make for one beautiful tropical wedding. Didn't Churchill's Photography do an amazing job of capturing the natural beauty of the day? It was nearly impossible to narrow down all of the beautiful photos taken of the couple on the beach!

I just loved this couple's approach to planning their wedding. "We learned that there is no right or wrong in weddings. While many things are expected at weddings these days - large number of guests, bridesmaids and groomsmen, nifty save the dates and invitations, I have learned that it is completely okay to go against the norm on your wedding day. Forgoing all of the extra 'fancy' stuff allowed us to focus on what really mattered that day... each other!"

Peaceful Oceanside Engagement Shoot

Hey guys! Happy day-before-my-birthday! ;) I'm taking tomorrow off, so I felt the need to mention it! I'll turn 27 tomorrow, although with this baby of mine, I'm feeling much older these days!

If you're ever stumped on where to take your engagement photos, always go for the beach. It works everytime, and today's engagement shoot is a perfect example! Today, I am happy to be sharing yet another fabulous engagement shoot by San Diego's Studio Sequoia . This session took place on the beautiful beaches and ocean cliffs of San Diego, right beside the railroad tracks. This engagement shoot was a longtime coming, and a sweet birthday surprise from Tony to Megan over the holidays. Tony and Megan first met while attending college in Indiana, and were engaged for nine whole months before getting their engagement photos done. After Tony graduated from college, he was quickly deployed by the US Navy, while Megan finished up her last semester of school. But during Megan's Christmas break, the couple made the long road trip out to California, where Tony had a birthday surprise waiting for Megan...engagement photos! An entire vintage 1950's living room was set up on the ocean cliff right next to the train tracks, and then they headed down to the beach for some quiet and intimate moments together as the sun went down.

"What really touches us again and again is the huge sacrifice soldiers and their loved ones make each day," said their photographer, Kelley. "He would be deployed a few weeks after their engagement session, and likely would not return for a year, so they have plans to get married whenever he gets back."

Breezy Waterside Engagement Shoot

Surprise! I know that I said that I wouldn't normally be posting anything new on Fridays, but today, I'm making a special exception. Hope you don't mind! :) Today, I'm happy to share Lauren and Chris' waterside engagement shoot by Studio A Images at Spring Lake in New Jersey. The spot has special meaning to the couple not only because Chris proposed to Lauren there last summer, but also because the spot was unfortunately destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. There's something so sweet and natural about this shoot that I just love. It's BREEZY! The couple is super cute, too, which never hurts!

Nautical Chic Destination Wedding by the Sea

I'm so excited, because I get to feature the most gorgeous wedding today! I've actually been holding onto it for awhile, because admittedly, I wasn't able to get as much information about it as I had originally hoped, but I decided to feature it anyway because I'm just so in love with it! I think that you'll agree that it's a really beautiful wedding, and personally, the colors, style, venue and just the whole feeling behind it make it a great reflection of my own personal style. I know, I know...it isn't about me =P But as I'm sure you can tell, I'm obsessed. Really!

The classic navy blue and white color palette and its beautiful seaside location down in Florida inspired me to label this destination wedding as "Nautical," while its crisp, clean lines and modern floral arrangements deem it incredibly "Chic!" I often think that the trick to making a wedding truly elegant is exercising restraint. Knowing what to showcase, and what to leave out, what to spend the time, money and effort on, and what to keep simple. From the boldly striped napkins, to the simple color palette and the classic, All-American venue, the breezy, light-filled photographs by photographer Lauren Kinsey are a perfect reflection of the entire day. As you'll soon see, Lauren did a truly incredible job of capturing not only the fabulous details, but what I imagine is the real essence behind the wedding and the newly married couple. There's something about the photos of Whitney and Paxton together that is so easy and natural.

The rather gorgeous couple, Paxton and Whitney, are from Houston, Texas, where they had originally planned on having a huge wedding with about 400 guests! But in the middle of the madness, about six months before they were set to marry, the two of them decided to get back to what their day was really about. Paxton and Whitney made the big decision to throw their original plans out the window, and instead, chose to have an intimate destination wedding in their favorite little sunshine filled town of Seaside, Florida.

"When I met with Paxton and Whitney for the first time, they told me that they didn't want everything to be about the fluff...[they] just [wanted it] to be about them joining their lives and their families together as one," said their photographer, Lauren Kinsey. The bride's father officiated the small chapel ceremony on a warm afternoon in May, and the day turned out to be exactly what Whitney and Paxton had wanted all along - simple, happy and intimate.

Nautical Chic New England Wedding

I see so many beautiful weddings every day...some are vintage, others are romantic, modern, seasonal, whimiscal, fun or offbeat...but there is something about a nautical wedding that will always get me. This is probably because I used this theme as inspiration for my own wedding ! Navy blue and white is undoubtedly my very favorite wedding color palette, and throw some stripes in there? LOVE. Nothing better, in my opinion. That's why when I received this beautiful seaside wedding from my favorite New England wedding photographer, Corey Hendrickson , I knew it was simply a matter of time before I shared it with you guys.

Using a wedding color palette of navy blue, white and bright yellow (Sound familiar? These were my wedding colors, too!), this wedding was designed by Your Day Your Way to reflect the bride and groom, Cindy and Jeff's personalities and personal tastes. The couple wanted a waterfront event that was "Preppy, classy and fun," which naturally gave way to the distinctive "Nautical chic" theme of the day. The wedding ceremony was held seaside overlooking the beautiful Chesapeake Bay at the Silver Swan Bayside in the Queen Anne Marina located in Stevensville, Maryland. I really love the peaceful setting and the simplicity of the ceremony setup with white garden chairs decorated with bunches of white hydrangeas in mason jars and tied with yellow ribbon.

The bride wore a gown by Priscilla of Boston , and each of her bridesmaids wore blue dresses by J.Crew and held bouquets of strikingly bright yellow roses. Jeff and his groomsmen definitely had the nautical look down pat with printed ties by Vineyard Vines , navy blue blazers, khakis and Sperry Topsiders . The ceremony was followed by an seaside cocktail hour, and then guests were invited inside for an evening reception. The reception venue was equally as beautiful as the outdoor setting, decorated with navy blue linens topped with arrangements of "White and fluffy flowers" placed inside mason jars for a more "rustic, nautical touch." After sending off the newly married couple with sparklers in hand, guests went home with custom made navy blue koozies as wedding favors, and bags of sweets from the candy bar set up at the reception.

Sweet and Intimate Hawaiian Wedding

I've loved this destination wedding since the moment that I first saw it, and I'm excited to finally share it with you today! Kristen and Justin were married this past spring in a sweet, intimate ceremony at a private residence in Haena on the island of Kauai. This charming Hawaiian wedding was photographed by the talented Melissa Dunstan , who does an amazing job capturing all of the sweet wedding details and the amazing scenery that surrounded the couple on their day. Showcasing an elegant ivory, green and purple color palette, with vintage Hawaiian pieces and unique modern florals, Kim Duncan of KD Event Designs created a wedding that was full of pure warmth and authenticity.

Kristen and Justin were married in a simple wedding ceremony outside overlooking the Hawaiian coast, with an intimate dinner reception later following beneath the trees strung with white lights. The bride took her time collecting unique glassware from various antique shops in Kauai for guests to use at the reception, while dining on fresh, local Hawaiian cuisine prepared by Chef Grant Carnes. All of the paper goods, including the colorful dinner menus, were designed by event designer Kim Duncan. Vintage postcards were used in lieu of a guest book, which Kristen and Justin plan to read on their one year wedding anniversary next March 19, 2012.

I'm loving Kristen's rings, too, aren't you?! Justin designed the ring for her himself, using diamonds from his grandmother's own wedding rings. Such a sweet idea...it reminds me of a necklace that my mom had made for me for my 16th birthday using the diamond from her wedding ring.
