If you are really going to get married in a field don’t buy a dress with layers and layers of tulle because it is a sure thing that you will get hundreds of little flies between the layers and your photographer will spend ages getting them out along with all the grass and hay you pick up.  Keep it simple like these beautiful dresses on Shelley Daniel Wedding Photography’s brides

So with no further ado lets talk about food!!!

A wedding at St Fagans will be a unique and memorable experience and the menu for your special occasion should resonate in the same way. Gone are the days of rigid set price menus and three course wedding breakfasts. Venues have had to adapt to the changing catering desires of brides and grooms as they move away from traditional menus to more creative and alternative dishes.  At St Fagans the our team of professional in – house catering experts specialists, Elior UK , work to create a menu perfect for the tastes of any couple, incorporating the finest, locally sourced ingredients that deliver both breath-taking taste combinations and exquisite presentation Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Wedding Catering

The menu for your Big Day can be entirely adaptable and bespoke menus can be created to include your favourite ingredients and meaningful dishes for this most special of days.   A recent wedding at St Fagans served Spanish style tapas meal rather than a wedding breakfast, including antipasti, king prawns in garlic butter, paella and Spanish omelette accompanied by flavoured breads and focaccia. This relaxed and interactive serving style helped build the atmosphere of the day

Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Wedding Catering

Afternoon tea has also become a more popular choice for couples. With our stock of mix and match cake stands and crockery at St Fagans we can offer an authentic vintage tea party instead of a 3-course meal.

A more unusual request from a bride came recently – a mashed potato bar. This emerging craze, which originated in America, involves sweet or traditional mashed potato being served in martini glasses with a range of toppings available to sprinkle over the top. These included bacon, cheese, sour cream, spring onions and gravy to name a few.

New trends are emerging all the time and the Elior catering team at St Fagans are happy to work with couples to cost out any request that they may have.

1.  Complement a beautiful bohemian dress like these from Lillian West from Laura May Bridal , Cardiff with simple beachy waves and a beautiful floral crown.

2. LoveDub weddings advise to always assess the ground conditions at your outdoor venue for your Wedding vehicle to arrive so that the vehicles are not “stuck in the mud” on a rainy day.  Possibly arrange for ground coverage if you are in a field in the area your vehicle will arrive so you can step out onto firmer ground too

4. Wellies, if you are having a festival style wedding, are essential and make great photos, also applies to any countryside wedding- like these images from Shelley Daniels Photography

Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Castle Marquee

Well the beautiful weather this week is making us super excited for Cwtchfest on the 18th September at St Fagans National History Museum.

Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Castle Marquee

If you are yet to get your tickets we are celebrating this bank holiday weekend with a 3 day FLASH SALE!!!  Starting at midnight tomorrow night!  Just click here to join us

Until our fabulous wedding festival starts we have been casting a spotlight on a different area this stunning venue has to offer every week and this Thursday is the turn of the marquee on the elegant Castle Grounds.Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Castle Marquee

Marquee sites have grown in popularity over recent years particularly those which offer couples spectacular views for their big day, such as those found on-site at St Fagans .  The marquee, set within the exquisite grounds of the castle, gives couples a blank canvas from which to plan their special day.

Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Castle Marquee

Located on the beautiful Castle Lawns, and catering for up to 140, guests enter the marquee through double wooden doors to be greeted by an elegant interior, draped with ivory colour linings and completed with wooden floors and carpet. There is also a choice of coloured overlays available to compliment the colour scheme of any wedding day. Chandeliers and uplighters light the marquee to carry through the magical feel of the venue.

Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Castle Marquee

A dance floor is installed in the marquee with the option of star lighting over the floor for the evening. A double fronted bar is installed and tables are provided for cake stands and signing of guests books or presents.  Additional extras include a luxury mobile toilet unit, air heaters and staging.

Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Castle Marquee

The beauty of a marquee wedding is the ability to design your own space and the marquee at St Fagans has seen a number of themes, from vintage, to glamour to a more dramatic use of colour. A marquee has the advantage of being a blank canvas allowing couples the opportunity to decorate the interior to fit in with the wedding theme.

Cwtchfest Spotlight: St Fagans Castle Marquee

One added benefit of marquee weddings is that they can allow for more space and additional guests to attend on the day.  At St Fagans , there is also the possibility of a plasma screen link from the Castle to the marquee, which enables additional guests to attend and view the ceremony from marquee if attendee numbers becomes an issue. Available seasonally between May to September, 4pm to midnight, a number of packages also include free use of the Castle or Oakdale Hall for civil ceremonies.

Oakdale holds a very special place in one of our Cwtch girls hearts as the venue of choice for our Lindsey’s wedding.  After saying her vows in St Fagans Castle and having a drinks reception in the castle grounds.  Lindsey and her party set off to the other side of St Fagans to Oakdale Working mens institute by foot and by land train!!

Oakdale Workmen’s Institute was originally a focal point for social and cultural life in the early 20th century but more recently, the beautiful stone building has been the location of many a wedding at St Fagans .

Oakdale is a particular favourite among couples going for a vintage theme to their wedding as the ‘village hall’ feel brings with it an air of romantic history from a bygone era.

The rich, wooden interior provides a traditional feel for civil wedding ceremonies, echoing the time-honoured vibe of the venue as a whole and can accommodate up to 90 seated guests.

St Fagans also offers Oakdale Workmen’s Institute as a unique reception venue. The Concert Hall on the first floor is the perfect space for wedding celebrations. The stage is ideal for evening entertainment and its handy sprung floor means you can dance the night away in style!

In line with the vintage vibes, many couples opt for an afternoon tea style wedding breakfast at Oakdale. Couples often chose to decorate the rooms in keeping with their wedding. It is extremely flexible in its layout enabling it to be arranged to suit the needs of any particular wedding.

The character and authentic charm offered by Oakdale means the ‘village hall’ style already offers an unique and interesting interior which so many couples fall in love with when visiting.
