Earlier last week, wedding and lifestyle expert extraordinaire Colin Cowie , invited Merci New York to share in his own tres-chic Royal Wedding at New York City’s legendary Pierre Hotel . Even though the Royal Wedding luncheon following this morning’s ceremony is supposed to be “casual and relaxed” {and not even sit down!}, the dinner dance later this evening may be a bit more lush. And of course, we can’t think of anyone better than Colin Cowie to share his predictions on what today’s celebrations will entail…
Colin designed a gorgeous gold-toned tablescape with 24 carat gold champagne flutes , candlelight at each place setting, luscious silk linen, and beautiful florals that incorporated green Antherium, green Fiddlenecks, Vibernum, white Water Lilies and roses. Take a peek…
According to Colin Cowie , this morning’s Royal Wedding signifies a new wedding trend, a “Return to Regal” that Merci New York cannot wait to see come to fruition. Colin predicts a return to formal and traditional décor in weddings that will move us away from the relaxed, ‘DIY’ trend that we have been seeing so much of during the past few years. {I’ll toast to that}!
“I believe you will see a return to custom, hand calligraphed invitations in traditional fonts, some including monograms and even family crests,” Colin told us. “Wedding cakes will also evolve to include more gold and intricate accents, adding rich details to the centerpiece of the reception.”
We love the idea of adding lushness to any celebration {look closely at the tactile fringe Colin added to the tablecloth}, so I asked Colin to share some of his Royal Wedding Table Tips with Merci’s readers:

- To create a mirrored centerpiece, simply purchase a piece of mirrored plastic, glue a strip of rich fabric, like velvet in a burgundy or deep emerald green, or anything embroidered, along the edge of the mirror. You’ll have yourself a gorgeous table runner in minutes!
- You can never use too much gold – incorporate it in your tableware, silverware, glassware – even your tablecloth! It’s the quickest way to bring your table from rural to royal!
- It’s easy to create the perfect royal napkin – all you need are plain white napkins, and crown or crest iron-on decals from a local crafts store – it only takes a few minutes and will make guests feel extra special.
