String lights have finally made their due appearance in engagement sessions. Is there ever a wrong time for string lights? I think not. Their twinkle and sparkle can light up any night with a romantic glow. But if you had suggested using them in the middle of the day I would have thought- crazy alert! Britt Croft and this lovely couple that she recently photographed have proven me wrong. And if this is what wrong looks like, I don’t want to be right.
Being that we are smack dab in the middle of summer… we thought it appropriate to bring you a gorgeous, modern tropical Bouquet Blueprint! The burnt orange Anthiriums and the deep burgundy ti leaves make a stunning combination. The addition of the different Proteas adds movement and incredible texture. These flowers thrive without water so they are the perfect choice for both bouquet and boutonniere during these hot and humid months!
CARE // These tropical flowers can easily be out of water all day long and will look as perfect as they did at the beginning of the day. If you spritz the bouquet with water, water spots may be left on the ti leaves. Simply wipe the water off the leaves to avoid the water spots. It is important to avoid touching the Anthiriums. The oils on our hands will brown Anthiriums after extended exposure.
AVAILABILITY // These beautiful tropical flowers are at their peak season during summer months but they have a limited availability year round. Anthiriums come in a wide variety of colors while the proteas are mainly available in pink tones.
DESIGN TIP // When rolling the ti leaves, use strong glue dots to hold the leaves together. Do not use hot glue as it will burn the leaves. Clod glue will take too long to dry and is messy. Also a single burlap style ribbon is used to bind the bouquet in one spot creating a more casual feel.
RECIPE // 3 Anthiriums, 3 Proteas and 10 folded short, burgundy tri leaves
BOUTONNIERE // Since these tropical flowers are all too large for boutonnieres, pieces are used to create a modern style. The boutonniere on the left is shown with a few protea petals, a piece of ti leaf looped around the back and protea leaves. The boutonniere on the right is shown with looped ti leaf section and a touch of brightly colored succulents. The overall feel is achieved without using the same flowers as the bouquet.

What is a brides worst nightmare for her wedding day? Rain! Although it rained on this couple’s special day, they didn’t have to worry about getting beautiful outdoor photo’s thanks to KLP Photography who offers a free “rain check” session to all her brides that have rain on their wedding day! I completely love this idea- especially with all the rain we have seen in our Knoxville area this summer wedding season. You can tell the couple had so much fun with this session- who doesn’t love getting dressed back up and re-living the most special day of their life? On top of that, the location is beautiful and adds a great southern, rustic feel to the shoot.

“If it rains on a wedding day so much that we are unable to get adequate outdoor photos, I will provide a free “rain check session” for the bride and groom. This is so they can get dressed back up, and take outdoor photos at the location of their choice! Rain is a brides #1 fear, so it relieves a lot of stress for them to know that if it does rain, it’s ok! They will be able to get pictures done at another time if they want to.”

I LOVE this detail. Tying off the aisle with a bow so that no guests walk down it – both for superstition and so they won’t ruin your aisle runner… it makes for a pretty picture as well. Think about it, your parents could be the ones to untie the ribbon!!!
“Everything about the day was so fun and exciting but I have to say, my favorite memory was the part leading up to the ceremony and of course the ceremony too! From the bridal suite, I could “spy” on our guests arriving and finding their seats. With the music playing in the background, butterflies started gathering in my stomach as I counted down the final minutes before walking down the aisle. My bridesmaids and Matron of Honor left the suite ahead of me to walk down the aisle and I had about 3 minutes to myself, in pure silence. All of the stress of planning had washed away and I felt the most calm I’ve ever felt. The second I could finally see Thomas waiting at the end of the aisle for me, was a moment I will never forget until the end of my time!
..We planned every aspect of the wedding ourselves so we were able to really make it our own. We made the seating chart out of picture frames, the favors, the table numbers and the thank you cards that were placed at each guest’s seat. We LOVE olive oil so it was a no-brainer that we wanted it as a favor. I had so much fun making the hand-stamped thank you tags that were affixed to the oil. I also enjoyed making the table numbers, which were really easy and inexpensive (picture frames with the glass removed and wooden numbers glued in the middle)..
..Do what makes you and your fiance happy. There is so much inspiration online that it can feel overwhelming. Take a step back, dream up your perfect day, and create it. It doesn’t have to look straight out of a movie, in fact, it shouldn’t. It should look like YOUR dream day.
