One of my favorite things about today's featured wedding are the gorgeous photos of the bride and groom. There's something so warm and romantic about Michelle Johnson's photos of Matt and Nicole, and the adorable couple just seems to glow with happiness! All of their innate charm seems to permeate throughout their wedding day, set up at the San Moritz Lodge in the mountains in Southern California this past April.

Nicole and Matt's big day began first thing in the morning, as both sides of the wedding party took their time getting ready over champagne mimosas with close friends and family. Once ready, the happy couple shared an intimate first look with their photographer, Michelle standing nearby to snap some beautiful photos of the special moment. Shortly after, the ceremony began outside by Lake Gregory in the warm early afternoon. Because of the rustic setting in the mountains, Nicole chose not to have any traditional wedding flowers, opting for more natural greenery including eucalyptus, succulents and wildflowers instead. Nicole began her walk down the aisle by walking through a beautifully decorated door entryway, with mason jars and wildflowers lining the rest of the aisle. The bride and groom chose a unique ceremony ritual, sealing up their favorite bottle of wine in a wooden box to later open together on a special anniversary years from now.

Guests transitioned from the ceremony to the cocktail hour, to the indoor reception with the help of some charming wooden signs, all made by the bride's mom. For the table centerpieces, Nicole handpainted charming little birdhouses, which were set on top of flat pieces of wood, rented from a girl who had her wedding right before them. The dessert and gift tables were designed using old furniture, suitcases, birdcages, headboards, and screens, all pulled from the thrift store, and every piece of lace belonged to the bride's grandmother or an old friend of the family. Guests left in the early evening with s'mores wedding favors, Nicole and Matt's favorite camping treat!

When you think of weddings, you don't normally think of honoring the deceased, yet it does come up often. Of course, the bride and groom want to honor the important people in their lives on their big day - whether they're able to be there to celebrate or not. I know that for me, personally, I contemplated honoring my father (who died of cancer when I was a kid) on my wedding day. If you're also thinking about recognizing someone you've lost, there are some beautiful and touching ways to go about honoring close friends and family that have passed away.

First and foremost, I encourage you to really think about the person you want to honor. Did your grandfather love cigars? Have a cigar bar and include a name and photo of your grandpa on the table. Did your grandma give you a special quilt? Try incorporating it into your ceremony. If your aunt always made amazing oatmeal cookies, serve them or even give away a copy of the recipe as your wedding favor. The best way to honor someone you love on your big day is to honor who he or she was as a person, and what was most special about him or her.

If you're still stumped for ideas, don't stress! I've included a handful of popular ways to honor your deceased loved ones just below for this week's Picks on Paper. This includes wearing a special charm on your bouquet or boutonniere, "Reserving" chairs at your ceremony and/or reception, serving special cocktails, beverages and foods, special recognition in your wedding stationery and interesting timeline and photo displays.

If you're been engaged for a while, then I'm sure that it's no secret to you that mason jars are HUGE right now. They have been for a while now, actually, and its staying power is surprising even me! Their versatility, as well as their low cost, contributes toward their popularity not only in weddings, but in homes (I have a few in my bathroom to hold my cotton balls, Q-tips and such!), as well. I've seen them used a multitude of ways - for wedding favors, fun cocktails, floral vases, food containers, lighting and candles and much, much more. I've even see them used totally empty, arranged in clusters on tables as centerpieces, dipped in glitter, spray painted and doodled on to add a little color and personality to weddings.

Ironically, because mason jars are so popular, I tend to stay away from doing blog posts focusing solely on them. Not because I'm not a fan, but because I see them so often in weddings, on other blogs and such, that I kind of forget that I haven't featured them, myself, if that makes any sense! However, my husband and I were looking at our web stats just the other day, and what's the third most popular tag clicked by readers to date? Mason jars! With so many of you guys on the hunt for mason jar inspiration, I thought it was time that I pulled together some ideas for this week's Picks on Paper . I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like mason jars are everywhere these days, but it isn't quite as easy to find them as you'd think. I don't frequent flea markets, garage sales or estate sales very often, but this is often where I hear brides collect their vintage glassware. If you're like me though, and would rather just buy them than go through the effort of hitting the sales every weekend to piece together your collection of mason jars, here are some great places to look:

Major online retailers like Overstock.com , Amazon.com and Etsy (be sure to check both the "Handmade" and the "Vintage" sections when searching!).
Oftentimes, brides are looking to get rid of the mason jars they used for their own wedding, so checking message boards and resale sites is also a must! Especially now that mason jars have been popular for so long; you're going to find a lot of brides out there looking to sell theirs nowadays. Check Recycled Bride , Wedding Bee , The Knot forums and the Recycle Your Wedding shop on Ruffled.
Given their huge popularity, you'd be surprised how many big supermarkets are now carrying mason jars! I recently saw them in-store at Target , and they're also available online via Sears and Walmart .

Have I ever mentioned that before Dale and I decided on a destination wedding, I was dead-set on having a Fall wedding? There were a few reasons for my determination...one of which was the weather. If you happen to live in Southern California like I do, then you know that the best weather of the year usually isn't in the spring or summertime. It's the early Fall. September and the beginning of October is my favorite time of year here in Los Angeles. Not too hot, rarely cold and lots of clear skies. It is, in my opinion, the most predictable and reliable time of year for great weather, and I always knew that I wanted an outdoor wedding. While I don't regret my own wedding for a second, I do wonder what our day would have been like if we had gotten married here in the Fall. It probably would have been a lot like today's wedding! Which is why I was so drawn to it, of course ;)

Last Fall, Erin and Andrew welcomed 140 guests to their warm, simply rustic Fall wedding held at a family friend's beautiful private residence near the beach. "Residence" is probably the wrong word though, in my opinion...more like "mansion"! I actually thought it was a hotel at first! The entire property and rustic Fall wedding was wonderfully captured by talented photographer Sia McDonald . Along with the expert guidance of Event Designer Jennifer Janzen of MAP Events , Erin made sure that each and every one of their guests "...felt like they were part of a special event from the moment they stepped onto the property." An exemplary bride in pretty much anyone's book, Erin embraced her love of design, and was extremely resourceful and detail-oriented throughout the planning process. She kept an eye out for inspirational pieces at garage sales and flea markets, while working with family and friends to make sure every single detail was just right. Erin wanted lots of family photos on display to celebrate both her and Andrew's pasts, and a photo booth to capture all of the memories from the day. Wooden lanterns filled with flowers lined the pathways, while the entire reception area was illuminated with lights strung from the surrounding trees.

Erin had a hefty list of DIY projects, too! All of the save the dates, wedding invitations, menus and seating cards were created by Erin and printed on recycled paper at the Greener Printer . As far as the wedding decor, DIY details included the mirrored seating chart, clear candleholder globes purchased from CB2 and filled with flowers for ceremony, the directional signpost and wooden table numbers (that Erin's father carved out of wood left in a neighbor's front yard), to name a few.

In my opinion, it's pretty much impossible not to admire the creative mix of flowers that made up the bride's and bridesmaids' bouquets, and reception centerpieces, arranged by Christine Cater . The wedding was decorated with a vibrant, unexpected mix of hydrangeas, dahlias, garden roses and ranunculus in a range of Fall jewel tones. A rather subtle addition of fresh fruit to the reception table centerpieces gave the outdoor dining area a warmer, slightly rustic look and feel. Guests were seated at long banquet style tables topped with olive green linens, placed in the front yard of the property. After dinner, dancing, cocktails and lots of cake soon followed in the backyard into the late evening.

After the wedding, Erin and Andrew traveled to Aruba for their honeymoon (if you can't tell, my voice is dripping with envy right now), which seems only fitting, as the couple first began dating while on a graduation trip to Australia, and were later engaged on a family trip to Hawaii!Let's hope that it's only the beginning of a long life of travels together :)
