PHOTO – Rare Sighting of a White Person on Nias Island, Sumatra, Indonesia Whilst traveling way back in 1997 we were driving through a remote village on Nias Island in Sumatra, Indonesia. Our driver stopped to pick up water supplies and we were surrounded by the locals.

It was obvious they had never seen white people before, or very rarely, as they just stared at us in astonishment. It was an incredible feeling.
