Last Friday was a bona-fide bonanza of Roland announcements, with its #909day Celebration event featuring a stack of product announcements that not only included the rumored revival of the company’s iconic TB-303 and TR-909 machines , but also its partnership with Serato on a new 808-enhanced DJ mixer that would integrate live producing with digital DJing. As if all that weren’t enough, Roland has additionally announced its expansion into vinyl DJ gear.
This new vinyl-inspired adventure will see the release of two new products: the TT-99 turntable and the DJ-99 mixer . Both products will feature the same grey and orange color scheme we’ve associated with Roland’s iconic TR-909 drum machine.
However, apart from the skin-deep appearance of the two products, there’s not much else to really link them to the TR-909. As FACT Magazine notes, the TT-99 turntable looks “a lot like a classic Technics SL-1200 with a fancy paint job,” and beyond its retro color scheme, “there’s not much to distinguish it from other turntables on the market.”
While the standard nature of both products means it’s not nearly as much of a cutting-edge prospect as the DJ-808 , both come in at a very affordable price point.
Head over to the Roland product website for a full rundown of its new collection of gear.
