This is something we’ve been waiting a long time for. It’s impossible to overstate the impact Berlin-based M.A.N.D.Y. have had on modern house and techno. Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung formed as a duo in 2001, before forming Get Physical Music alongside Booka Shade and DJ T the following year, with all parties going on to set the underground agenda. Finally, 15 years later, M.A.N.D.Y.’s debut album is on the horizon.
“Of course, we had the idea to make an official M.A.N.D.Y. album a long time ago,” Jung said yesterday of the upcoming Double Fantasy, “but we did not want a stapled-together snapshot. After all, we were and are on the road worldwide pretty much constantly. So, the endeavor took a little bit longer than expected.”
“In a career, it’s expected to release a long-format as soon as possible,” Bodmer added yesterday. “For us, it was not the most important thing in the universe!”
However, this doesn’t mean compiling the new album wasn’t a heavily involved process, with the pair working from a pool of around 50 compositions. It will also see the return of their iconic Booka Shade collaboration “Body Language” from 2005, a dancefloor-destroying record that dominated upon its release and is considered one of house music’s truly enduring anthems.
