Track of the Day: Bruno Pronsato Turns “Rumba” Into a Gripping, Late-Night Bumper

On the back of its inaugural release from label founder Bartolomeo, the newly minted Bar Musica imprint makes another strong statement by locking down three new originals from the elusive producer known as J Paraguai. While there’s still so much to be learned about the mysterious groove-maker, Rumba sends a clear-cut message regarding his predilection for the stranger sounds dwelling in the underground. The titular cut makes the longest-lasting impression from the package, programmed with clangy percussive patterns and an intimidating rhythm that rests left of center. Electronic aficionado Bruno Pronsato reshapes the tune into a minimal monster of its own, with his on-the-bumper remix built with the creature hours of the weekend in mind. Haunting vocal play, mind-bending effects, and smoldering synth loops all make for a weird yet oddly addicting bit of trippy techno fun.
