Black Diamond Crew Gloves Review

Black Diamond Crew Gloves Review

Want to make a winter ascent of the Grand Teton? Spend the day on Mt. Blanc? Or simply shred first chair to last in Telluride? Then the Crew Gloves from Black Diamond are for you, as they are warm, waterproof, and durable. Plus they look great with any outfit.

The Crews are a midweight ski glove with excellent dexterity. We tested them in frigid weather that dipped into the negative and in warmer temps from 0 to 40 degrees. They proved impervious to cold and rain, plus they fit over any cuff.

The long gauntlets get rid of the awkward cuff/glove interface uncertainty. A gently tensioned elastic runs around the perimeter of the wrist to keep the glove snug on your hand, without pinching. Inside there’s a waterproof breathable Gore-Tex insert with Thermolite insulation (think soft, warm, and comfortable).

The goat leather palms didn’t wet out – woven 4-way stretch panels between the fingers and over the knuckles kept water out without building up sweat. One tester, an alpinist and skier with multiple first ascents to his name, applauded the finger flexibility – the material doesn’t interfere with twisting ice screws or clinging to ski poles. Compression molded EVA padding on the fingers protected his knuckles whether he was bashing gates or swinging an axe.

At 32 grams per pair, the Black Diamond Crew Gloves retail for $140 and are available now.
