Depeche Mode Taps Simian Mobile Disco Producer for New Album in 2017

The ears of the electronic world perked up yesterday, with not only the final confirmation that influential English pioneers Depeche Mode would return next year with a new album and tour, but also that the album’s been produced by James Ford, one half of Simian Mobile Disco .

Set to arrive in the spring of 2017, Spirit will include contributions from Berlin-based techno producer Matrixxman . The release will be accompanied by Depeche Mode’s hugely anticipated Global Spirit Tour , which will move across Europe throughout the summer, with a North American tour to be announced at a later date.

The band originally formed way back in 1980, and Spirit will be their 14th studio album. To give you an idea of how much fans are already salivating at the idea of a tour nearly a year in the future, articles are already popping up all over the internet advising fans on how to prepare for the presale when it arrives later this week.

“We’re exceptionally proud of Spirit’s sound and energy, and we’re excited to get back on tour to share it with our fans around the world,” frontman Dave Gahan said from Milan this week.
